There are several advantages of a design-bid-build contract. The traditional structure is a familiar one and most owners, consultants, and contractors understand their roles and obligations. The completion of the design in advance of the bidding process allows for greater certainty for the contractor in fixing the price and for the owner in budgeting and financing the project. Since design and construction are completed sequentially, the owner maintains a detailed control of the design and the design team remains impartial and looks out for the interests of the owner. Design-bid-build also uses competition to improve the efficiency and quality for owners by providing a range of potential options and new contractors.

Research that takes the gender dimension into account is found in most scientific disciplines. For instance, a legal research project may investigate how gender-neutral legal rules affect women and men differently. An example of this is the effect of retirement pension rules. In many countries the rules are universal and gender neutral, and pensions are based on previous income. In practice, however, this theoretically gender‑neutral rule may have different outcomes for women and men. Women who have worked part-time or stayed at home to take care of children receive much lower pensions than men(and women) who have worked full-time. In legal research, the gender dimension involves exploring how gender relations influence the distribution of rights and duties, benefits and disadvantages, legal protection and punishment.

The flagship urban-development project of the NCC in the last several decades has been Confederation Boulevard-the Capital' s ceremonial and discovery route. In collaboration with federal and municipal partners, the NCC designed and constructed this 7. 5-kilometre route around the heart of Canada's Capital Region. Aside from providing an elegant streetscape for some of the most important sites and institutions of the nation, the Boulevard is a focus for year-round national celebrations, events and interpretation programs that help people to discover important aspects of Canada's government, culture, heritage, landscape and relations with other nations of the world. The idea for a ceremonial route in the heart of the Capital goes back to the 19th century. However, it was not until 1967-centennial year-that planners began to talk about a ceremonial route for processions and state visits, as a unifying element in the core areas of Ottawa, Ontario, and Hull(now Gatineau), Quebec, and as a vehicle for communicating the Capital of Canadians. Planning began in 1982 and construction in 1985. The central part of Confederation Boulevard was officially opened by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on June 30, 2000. The last phase of three-phase construction will be completed in 2006.

The Hipparcos Input Catalogue was constructed as the observing programme for the European Space Agency's Hipparcos astrometry mission. The requirements of the project in terms of completeness, sky coverage, astrometric and photometric accuracy, as well as the necessary optimisation of the scientific impact, resulted in an extended effort to compile and homogenize existing data, to clarify sources and identifications and, where needed, to collect new data matching the required accuracy. This has resulted in an unprecedented catalogue of stellar data including up-to-date information on positions, proper motions, magnitudes and colours, and(whenever available) spectral types, radial velocities, multiplicity and variability information. The catalogue is complete to well-defined magnitude limits, and includes a substantial sampling of the most important stellar categories present in the solar neighbourhood beyond these limits.

The construction of the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline is one of the most promising projects carried out as part of the Maghreb-Europe partnership. This project is considered as a physical link between the Maghreb and Europe pending the fixed link between Tangiers and the Rock of Gibraltar. The Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline which was dedicated on November 8, 1996 will link the Hass R’mel field in Algeria with Cordoba, in Andalusia through Morocco. It will service in a first stage the Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan markets, then the French and German ones with an expected increase by 2000. It will supply 1, 500 million cubic meters of gas to Morocco.

In 1996 the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline, a huge transnational energy infrastructure, entered into operation, configuring a new route for natural gas from the Algerian gas fields to the European markets. The pipeline, of around 1,400 km in length and 48 inches in diameter, connects the Hassi R’Mel deposits to the Spanish gas pipeline network in Cordoba. The gas pipeline is 48 inches in diameter in its 530 km course through Algeria, 540 km through Morocco and the 45 km stretch through the Straits of Gibraltar in which there are two lines of 22 inches in diameter each.

Willow Creek Lake is a flood control project designed to protect the city of Heppner, Oregon. In 1903, Heppner experienced one of the most devastating floods in the history of the United States. A lake for water conservation and irrigation is maintained at elevation 2063. When a flash flood occurs, the flood waters will be caught and stored, and slowly released until the lake returns to elevation 2063.

The B-2's low observability is derived from a combination of reduced infrared, acoustic, electromagnetic, visual and radar signatures.

The parasitic fungus Beauveria was the most novel practice, and the main form of biological control tested in the project. The fungus, which is native to the Andes but usually not found at population densities high enough to be an effective form of control, is mixed into the soil where potatoes are stored on the ground. NDHQ 97 is the largest accommodation project ever undertaken by the Department of National Defence or the government. It's more than just moving people from building to building. It's refitting buildings and general office space, using a new design concept called the universal footprint. It's adapting accommodation to re-engineered organizations. It's also purchasing and installing furniture best suited to a modern, dynamic organization. The headquarters will have a new look. In the four buildings... corridors will run along the windows. Offices will be clustered at the centre of each floor. Major traffic will flow outside work areas, not through them. People working in teams will have work areas designed for teams. Offices will have more natural light, better air conditioning and better ventilation. Some screens will have glazed windows to allow natural light to spill through. Each workstation will include large, well-lit work surfaces for computers and overall, will have more usable workspace. Plenty of storage space will be located above and below work surfaces. But employees will be encouraged to make the most of their space by storing information on diskette, rather than in filing cabinets. The look will be cleaner and less cluttered. And whether people are tall or short, they’ll be able to adjust their desks, chairs and computers to the height that's right for them.

Il y aura davantage de lumière naturelle dans les bureaux, et la climatisation ainsi que la ventilation seront meilleures. Certaines cloisons auront des fenêtres vitrées pour permettre la diffusion de la lumière naturelle. Chaque poste de travail comprendra de grandes surfaces bien éclairées pour les ordinateurs et offriront, dans l'ensemble, un plus grand espace utilisable. Hamid Ahmad has chosen beef for his studies on the production, processing, and storage of dried meat products. Mr Hamid is the head of the IDRC-supported Meat Processing Project of the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research(PCSIR) in Lahore. His research team has concentrated on the development of products based on traditional Pakistani foods. The product they are most hopeful about is based on "barian", a food traditionally made mainly with pulses(edible seeds of leguminous plants). Because of rising costs and hygiene problems, the practice of using mutton in barian is not as common as it once was. By incorporating beef into the barian, the protein content of this widely used food product is greatly enhanced.
