The mouth bow is the simplest stringed instrument, named so because it indeed takes the form of a small bow upon which a string made of fibre or reed is stretched.... To play it, one end of the string is held between the musician's lips, while it is plucked by the musician or struck with a thin twig. In this way the mouth works as a sound box. By expanding or contracting the oral cavity and by slightly opening the lips, harmonics can be created. Using another stick the player can damp the string, thus shortening it and producing a higher tone. In this way two fundamentals can be produced. 2, record 3, English, - mouth%20bow

Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 OBS
An esophageal obturator airway [or] EOA is a semi-flexible large-bore tube approximately 30 cm in length, with 19 holes in the shaft and an inflatable cuff. A soft face mask is attached to one end and the other end is closed. The airway was designed for personnel who are not authorized to place endotracheal tubes. One of the distinct advantages is that it can be inserted blindly through the mouth without having to visualize the larynx. It is also helpful in the prevention of gastric regurgitation. The disadvantages are that the tracheo-bronchial tree cannot be adequately suctioned and there is the possibility of esophageal rupture when the cuff is inflated too fully. 5, record 8, English, - esophageal%20obturator%20airway

Most of the soft-bodied anthozoans known as "sea anemones" are classified in the Actinaria. Actinarians have generally column-shaped bodies with the mouth at one end, and the pedal disk--a muscular organ for attachment to substrates--at the other. The mouth is on a corresponding structure, the oral disk, which is ringed with rows of tentacles. Actinarian anemones can reproduce either sexually or asexually, but they do not form true colonies with permanent tissue connections between members. 2, record 10, English, - Actinaria

1, record 21, French, - barom%C3%A8tre%20%C3%A0%20cuvette

Instrument consisting of a frame of wood or metal, in clothespin or horseshoe form, to which one end of a flexible lamella is attached, its other end remaining free. The narrow end of the frame is held loosely between the teeth so that the lamella can swing freely and is plucked with a finger, causing it to vibrate in the player's mouth, which thereby becomes a resonator. Depending on the position of tongue, lips, and cheeks, one or another harmonic can be emphasized. 2, record 28, English, - jaw%26rsquo%3Bs%20harp

Crib-biting and wind-sucking are different varieties of the same vice, which are learned chiefly by young horses. In each case the horse swallows air. A ’crib-biter’ effects this by grasping the edge of the manger or some other convenient fixture with the incisor teeth; it then raises the floor of the mouth; the soft palate is forced open; a swallowing movement occurs; and a gulp of air is passed down the gullet into the stomach. A ’wind-sucker’ achieves the same end, but it does not require a resting-place for the teeth.... Some horses which have been crib-biters learn to wind-suck when remedial measures are taken, and there are some wind-suckers which learn to crib-bite. 2, record 29, English, - crib

1, record 29, French, - tiquer%20%C3%A0%20l%27appui
