Room-scale virtual reality(VR), in which a user or "guest" can physically move within and interact with a virtual environment, is a very powerful and valuable addition to storytelling technology. Because room-scale VR allows a guest to walk around a physical play area, where the physical motions of the guest within the play area are reflected in the virtual environment, room-scale VR can provide a more compelling VR experience that is less dependent on being able to render high-quality visual and audio content. In particular, with a greater level of interaction available to a guest in room-scale VR, minor deficiencies in the presentation of video or audio content are less likely to detract from the immersive aspects of the room-scale VR experience, wherein a guest perceives that he or she is actually physically present in the virtual environment. 1, record 1, English, - room%2Dscale%20virtual%20reality

Spring swarming is a requirement for honeybee survival – the colony is starting a new hive. Around mid-day, half of the colony leaves their old home with their queen. The migrating swarm is quite impressive with thousands of bees filling the air with loud buzzing. Slowly they coalesce around their queen on a tree limb or other object. From this temporary perch, they send out "scouts" in search of a more permanent home. The scouts will bring information about a new site and the swarm will move away. 3, record 6, English, - migrating%20swarm

Les règles de jeu du tennis en fauteuil roulant sont les mêmes que le tennis habituel, sauf qu'on peut laisser la balle faire deux bonds avant de la frapper. Once a diesel engine is running, the engine speed is monitored and controlled through a governor. The governor ensures that the engine speed stays high enough to idle at the right speed and that the engine speed will not rise too high when full power is demanded. The governor is a simple mechanical device which first appeared on steam engines.... The governor consists of a rotating shaft, which is driven by the diesel engine. A pair of flyweights are linked to the shaft and they rotate as it rotates. The centrifugal force caused by the rotation causes the weights to be thrown outwards as the speed of the shaft rises. If the speed falls the weights move inwards. The flyweights are linked to a collar fitted around the shaft by a pair of arms. As the weights move out, so the collar rises on the shaft. If the weights move inwards, the collar moves down the shaft. The movement of the collar is used to operate the fuel rack lever controlling the amount of fuel supplied to the engine by the injectors. 2, record 23, English, - governor

Bobbing for apples is an old party game that can still be a lot of fun at parties or for other groups of children. The traditional version requires a tub or large basin of water. A number of apples are put in the water to float. One by one, the children and adults hold their hands behind their backs and try to catch an apple with their teeth. The apples all move around and make it hard to set your teeth into. Everyone who plays ends up with a wet face and maybe some damp clothes, and a lot of giggles. 2, record 26, English, - bobbing%20for%20apples

Atmospheric diving suits... They can be used for very deep dives, 600 metres/2000 feet, for many hours without the normal hazards of depth, such as the decompression sickness or nitrogen narcosis. They look like suits of armour, with elaborate pressure joints to allow articulation while resisting the large difference between the inside and outside pressure. They are often constructed from aluminium, weigh around 250 kg/500 pounds and have propellors allowing them to move in water. Often they are lowered from a support vessel, which supplies breathing gas, electric power and communications to the suit through an umbilical cable. The suit may incorporate a rebreather-type breathing system in the event of an emergency where the umbilical supply fails. 2, record 29, English, - atmospheric%20diving%20suit

An American from Chicago named Lodner D. Phillips designed the first completely enclosed atmospheric diving suit in 1856. His design consisted of a barrel-shaped upper torso with domed ends and was the first to incorporate ball and socket type joints in the articulated arms and legs. No record exists to indicate the Phillips suit was ever built, but many features of the design can be seen in similar more successful suits over a half century later. 3, record 29, English, - atmospheric%20diving%20suit

The cockpit clearview windows are plug-type windows that rest against a flange around the perimeter of the sill. Each window can be moved through a crank-and-chain mechanism located on the bulkhead below the windowsill. To open the window, the locking mechanism is first released by the pilot. This preliminary action releases the latches on the aft edge of the window, but does not move the window. The initial turning of the hand crank pulls the aft edge of the window inboard enough to clear the sill, allowing the window to slide aft when the crank is further turned. The window can be unlocked when the aircraft is pressurized, but the outward force on the window is so great that turning the hand crank cannot open the window. 3, record 32, English, - sliding%20window

2, record 32, French, - fen%C3%AAtre%20coulissante

Theoretical Maximum Range... is the maximum [range] between two [avalanche] transceivers.... The maximum range can be established by using two transceivers of the same type with new batteries. Find a large flat area such as a football field and place one device on the ground in transmit mode. The other should be set to search mode on maximum gain and the antennas should be parallel. Move away from the device on the ground until the signal disappears. The distance obtained is usually the range indicated by the manufacturer and is usually around 80 meters for analogue devices and somewhat less for digital devices. 1, record 39, English, - theoretical%20maximum%20range

Sometimes fine dark lines in amorphous mass-like small branching twigs-are seen. The variation of the direction in space is a conical motion, with vertex at the center of mass, around a perpendicular to the plane of the earth's orbit around the sun, in which the earth and the axis of rotation move together with no change in the position of the axis within the earth. This motion is caused by the gravitational attractions of the sun and the moon. The axis describes a sinuous conical surface at an irregularly varying rate; the motion is, therefore, represented as the resultant of a steady progressive motion in a circular cone of angular opening about 47°, called the "lunisolar precession"... 3, record 44, English, - lunisolar%20precession

2, record 48, French, - situation%20simul%C3%A9e%20par%20ordinateur

BREAK OVER. This occurs during that part of the stride when the limb is beginning to move forward and the anterior portion of the hoof leaves the ground. Break over point is that place on the ground surface of the dorsal wall and sole around which the limb rotates as the hoof leaves the ground. An unbalanced hoof, either because of incorrect trimming/shoeing, or hoof or limb pathologies, will not have the correct break over which leads to a host of problems, both actual and potential. It is also important to note that proper heel support is a major player in this equation. 2, record 49, English, - breakover

Internal frames are usually parallel aluminium staves in channels on the back of the pack. These are thinner and more flexible than frame staves found on external frames, and are usually either independent or only attached to one another at the top, so they flex and move with the wearer far more than is generally the case with external frames. This leads to greater freedom of movement, and also means that the pack body is closer in to the wearer's back, enabling the centre of mass to be held closer to the wearer's own. This isn’t as comfortable standing around as a high load, but it's a lot easier to balance it, especially off the trail in rougher stuff. 2, record 56, English, - internal%20frame

Two spacewalking cosmonauts set up a "Strela, "or "Arrow, "cargo boom outside the Pirs airlock last November. That telescoping crane can be extended to the rear end of the Zvezda crew module. Mounted to the opposite side of Pirs, the Strela boom installed by Onufrienko and Walz is positioned so that it can be reeled out to the end of the Zarya space tug, which is hooked up to the U. S. side of the station. Both booms are capable of hoisting cargoes that weigh as much as three tons. In making a Spanish windlass, fasten a rope between the load you are to move and an anchorage some distance away. Place a short spar vertically beside this rope, about halfway between the anchorage and the load. This spar may be a pipe or a pole, but in either case it should have as large a diameter as possible. Make a loop in the rope and wrap it partly around the spar. Insert the end of a horizontal rod through this loop. The horizontal rod should be a stout pipe or bar long enough to provide leverage. It is used as a lever to turn the vertical spar. As the vertical spar turns, the rope is wound around it, which shortens the line and pulls on the load. Make sure that the rope leaving the vertical spar is close to the same level on both sides to prevent the spar from tipping over. 3, record 69, English, - Spanish%20windlass

Rotary or wheel type blow molding machines... were originally developed by Continental Can Company and referred to as "Mills" machines. As the wheel rotates, molds close around the continuously extruded parison and move away for blowing and cooling. 1, record 72, English, - rotary%20blow%20molding%20machine

The [continuous extrusion blow-molding] process has three subcategories: the rising mold method, the rotary method, and the shuttle method. ... In the rotary method, up to twenty clamping stations are mounted to either a vertical or horizontal wheel. As the wheel rotates past the extruder, simultaneously, a parison is captured, bottles are molded and cooled and a cooled bottle is removed. The method can provide high production yields; however, a disadvantage is the complexity and setup of the multiple mold clamps, it is usually not suited for short production runs. 4, record 72, English, - rotary%20blow%20molding%20machine
