In connection with an ordinary action, it should be borne in mind that a wrongful distress may be either illegal, excessive or irregular. If there was no right of distress at all, or if, although there was a right of distress, a wrongful act had been committed at the beginning of the levy(for example, in the time of entry or the seizure of privileged goods), the distress is illegal. If, although a right of distress exists, a wrongful act has been committed in the seizure of more goods than were reasonably necessary to satisfy the claim, the distress is excessive. And if, although a right of distress exists, a wrongful act has been committed at some stage of the proceedings subsequent to the seizure, the distress is irregular. Since the passing of the Judicature Acts, these distinctions are of much less importance than they used to be; for now, in every case of wrongful distress, the writ may be simple endorsed. Vaned diffusers are used where importance is attached to the highest possible efficiency. By means of deflecting vanes in the diffuser guiding the flow in the radial direction, the velocity of the fluid can be reduced more than with a vaneless diffuser. In addition, the flow path through the forced deflection is shortened. Higher efficiencies and more compact geometries are obtained. Nevertheless, vaned diffusers also have disadvantages compared with vaneless ones : if the flow rate for a given vaned diffuser is much above the design flow rate, the profile losses increase considerably due to the high incidence angle. The efficiency then falls so steeply that operation is no longer purposeful. 2, record 9, English, - vaned%20diffuser

Chimney pots have been documented as early as the 13th Century, although the United States, like much of Europe, largely discovered chimney pots in the mid 1800s. Because of their ability to increase draft up a chimney, they were invaluable in small and large houses alike, as well as in other buildings where fireplaces served as the primary source of heat. Since coal was the fuel of choice, it was of the utmost importance that noxious fumes and soot be vented up the chimney and out of the house. 4, record 10, English, - chimney%20pot

Specific acid-base catalysis by H+ or OH- is of relatively limited importance in enzymatic reactions, but general acid-base catalysis is much more likely to be involved in the actions of enzymes. Many types of organic reactions occurring in cells--the addition of water to carbonyl groups, the hydrolysis of carboxylic and phosphoric esters, the elimination of water to form double bonds, and many substitutions reactions--are subject to this type of catalysis. Moreover, enzyme molecules are known to contain several kinds of functional groups capable of acting as general acids or general bases, e. g., amino, carboxyl, sulfhydryl, phenolic hydroxyl, and imidazole groups. 2, record 16, English, - substitution%20reaction

In the Sahara a rock stratum called the Continental Intercalary, which dates to the Cretaceous Period and which includes Nubian Sandstones, is the most important water-bearing layer. It extends over very large areas and reaches a thickness of more than 3, 000 feet; in Egypt and Algeria it provides artesian water. In The Sudan it sometimes lies directly on the Precambrian rock and contains underground water layers of local importance. Overlaying the Continental Intercalary but generally separated from it by a thick marine deposit is a layer called the Continental Terminal, which is the second-largest aquifer in this area. Both these layers contain "fossil" water _ that is to say, water that entered the layers when rainfall in and around the Sahara was much more abundant than today. Near the surface, aquifers are found in such recent deposits as alluvial deposits and sand dunes. 1, record 19, English, - Continental%20Terminal

Of most importance is the overload capability of the magnetic pickup equalised preamplifier, for if this tends to overload too early excessive distortion can result from discs carrying high velocity modulation. Case of inelastic derived demand. Suppose that a particular building-trades union, such as the electricians’, raises wages. This case emphasizes the factors making for inelastic demand and a small resulting drop in employment of electricians.(1) Note that in the short run, employers cannot substitute other factors-such as machines or plasterers-for electricians.(2) Do not forget the importance of being unimportant : The total cost of a house will be little affected by a change in the wage rate of electricians alone. This fact will tend to cause only a mild reduction of employment as a result of an increase in their wages.(3) Suppose there is a great housing shortage so that people feel they need homes desperately. Inelasticity of demand for the final product, housing, will lower the derived elasticity for electricians.(4) Suppose that all practicing electricians must be in the union, so that an increase in wages is not followed by a great increase in nonunion labor supplied. This inelasticity of supply of other factors will tend to make the demand for union electricians inelastic.(5) Suppose, finally, that administered pricing or public regulation will not permit the prices at which houses are available to change much. This will make for a little quantity of houses sold and hence inelastic demand for the factors that build house. 1, record 23, English, - inelastic%20derived%20demand
