Two developments that had an especially important impact [on music in the 1960s] were quotation music and minimal music. The former, which involved the use of earlier music as material for new compositions, represented an idea with a long tradition in Western music. Quotation had been a standard procedure during the medieval and Renaissance eras and it persisted in occasional use throughout the common-practice period.... Quotation music of the 1960s was set apart, then, not so much by how pervasive it was(though it was certainly that) but by the fact that the borrowed material consumed such a large portion of the musical structure that its "foreign" nature was emphasized to such a marked degree.... Not uncommonly, entire compositions were made up of quotations. 2, record 1, English, - quotation%20music

The economy exists entirely within society, because all parts of the human economy require interaction among people. However, society is much more than just the economy. Friends and families, music and art, religion and ethics are important elements of society, but are not primarily based on exchanging goods and services. Society, in turn, exists entirely within the environment. Our basic requirements--air, food and water--come from the environment, as do the energy and raw materials for housing, transportation and the products we depend on. Finally, the environment surrounds society. At an earlier point in human history, the environment largely determined the shape of society. Today the opposite is true : human activity is reshaping the environment at an ever-increasing rate. The parts of the environment unaffected by human activity are getting smaller all the time. 2, record 3, English, - human%20economy

4, record 3, French, - %C3%A9conomie%20humaine

The main threat so far to the recording industry, is that as each successive copy is identical to the original; there is no loss in quality no matter the generation of the copy. It was precisely for this reason that the recording industry so fervently opposed the introduction of DAT[ 2] technology in the late 1980s, and succeeded in the passage of the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. The issue of copying music onto a cassette did not cause much concern prior to the introduction of DAT as the cost of making copies was restricted by the price of cassette tapes-and each successive copy was of poorer quality than the last. There was little market for second-, third-, or fourth-generation scratchy home recordings. 3, record 6, English, - Audio%20Home%20Recording%20Act
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 (AHRA) amended the United States copyright law by adding chapter 10 "Digital Audio Recording Devices and Media." The act enabled the release of recordable digital formats such as Sony and Phillips’ Digital Audio Tape DAT without fear of contributory infringement lawsuits. The RIAA and music publishers, concerned that consumers ability to make perfect digital copies of music would destroy the market for audio recordings, had threatened to sue both companies and lobbied Congress to pass lesgislation imposing mandatory copy protection technology and royalties on devices and media. The AHRA is often overlooked, but it establishes a number of important precedents in US copyright law that that defined the debate between device makers and the content industry for the ensuing two decades. 2, record 6, English, - Audio%20Home%20Recording%20Act

3, record 6, French, - Audio%20Home%20Recording%20Act
