Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A Histosol is a soil where more than half of the upper 80 cm is organic ... Suborders of Histosols are defined on the basis of the degree of decomposition of organic material. The suborders are fibrist, saprist, and hemist. ... Fibrist is soil where less than one-third is decomposed and more than two-thirds is identifiable; Saprist is soil where two-thirds or more is decomposed material and less that one-third identifiable plant fiber; Hemist is soil somewhere in-between saprist and fibrist. 7, record 3, English, - muck%20soil
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Mucky peat and peaty muck are terms used to describe increasing stages of decomposition between peat and muck. 8, record 3, English, - muck%20soil
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 OBS
muck: In modern use distinguished from peat by being more thoroughly decomposed (and usually darker in colour) and having a higher mineral content. 9, record 3, English, - muck%20soil
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 3 OBS
Muck is another name for peat, especially when the material is employed as a manure. 9, record 3, English, - muck%20soil
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 4 OBS
Peat has been defined as containing over 65% of organic matter and Muck as containing from 25% to 65%. It does not appear desirable to place such definite limits of composition but rather to base the distinction mainly on the degree of decomposition and secondarily on the content of mineral material. 9, record 3, English, - muck%20soil
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 5 OBS
Not to be confused with "organic soil", a general term applied for a soil or a soil horizon that consists of primarily of organic matter(or contains at least 30% organic matter), such as peat soils, muck soils, and peaty soil layers.(See also that record). 10, record 3, English, - muck%20soil

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
6, record 3, French, - terre%20tourbeuse
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
La terre tourbeuse humide caractérise la tourbière. Celle-ci est composée de matières organiques, de plantes mortes, décomposées et compactées avec les années, formant une couche détrempée, chargée de carbone, pouvant atteindre six mètres d'épaisseur. 7, record 3, French, - terre%20tourbeuse

Irrigation by means of underground open joint tile, perforated pipes, or open ditch to maintain the water table at a desired distance below the ground surface. 4, record 4, English, - subsurface%20irrigation
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Water is applied to crops by surface, subsurface, sprinkler, and drip irrigation ... Subirrigation. This type of irrigation is accomplished by raising the water table to the root zone of the crop or by carrying moisture to the root zone by perforated underground pipe. 5, record 4, English, - subsurface%20irrigation
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Subirrigation(seepage) systems are based on establishment and maintenance of the high water table just beneath the crop root zone. Due to the capillary action the water migrates upward providing necessary moisture for the crop. For this system to function, the top layer of soil must have high hydraulic conductivity typical for sand or muck. The existence of natural high water table or restrictive layer(clay, rock, etc.) below the root zone is necessary to allow for the buildup and regulation of the irrigation water table throughout the season. Raising the water table in addition to providing for the evapotranspirational demand of the crop, requires large quantities of water which must also be available for seepage irrigation. 6, record 4, English, - subsurface%20irrigation
