Because fast twitch fibers use anaerobic metabolism to create fuel, they are much better at generating short bursts of strength or speed than slow muscles. However, they fatigue more quickly. Fast twitch fibers generally produce the same amount of force per contraction as slow muscles, but they get their name because they are able to fire more rapidly. Having more fast twitch fibers can be an asset to a sprinter since she needs to quickly generate a lot of force. 3, record 4, English, - fast%2Dtwitch%20muscle%20fiber

1, record 4, French, - fibre%20musculaire%20%C3%A0%20contraction%20rapide

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
ST muscle fibers function primarily for endurance. They contract at relatively low speeds and are primarily used during typical low- to moderate-threshold endurance-type activities. Thses muscle fibers have the ability to use fat, glucose (glycogen), lactic acid and protein (to an extent) as their fuel sources. These fibers have a large number of mitochondria (fuel-processing plant) giving rise to their endurance nature. Slow-twitch fibers are recruited first, are relatively fatigue resistant, and have a relatively low force output per cross-sectional area ... 3, record 5, English, - slow%2Dtwitch%20muscle%20fiber

1, record 5, French, - fibre%20musculaire%20%C3%A0%20contraction%20lente
