The procerus muscle is the pyramid-shaped muscle extending from the lower part of the nasal bone to the middle area in the forehead between the eyebrows, where it is attached to the frontalis muscle. Its location allows it to pull the skin between the eyebrows down.

OBS

CONT

During muscle contraction, the ATP-activated heads of the thick myosin filament swivel into position, much like the oars on a boat, form a cross-bridge with a reactive site on tropomyosin and then pull the actin filament foreward. During muscle relaxation the troponin molecules cover the reactive sites on tropomyosin.

Record 4 2012-01-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Physical Fitness Training and Bodybuilding
DEF

Any exercise in which your feet are bearing your weight.

CONT

In weight-bearing exercises, your bones and muscles work against gravity and your feet and legs bear the weight. Your bones adapt to the weight and pull of the muscle during weight-bearing exercise by building more bone cells and becoming stronger. This makes your bones stronger.

CONT

Weight-bearing exercises are those done staying upright so that your feet and legs support your weight. The term "weight-bearing" should not be confused with lifting weights (known as strength training). Weight-bearing exercises can include: low-impact aerobics, walking/hiking, elliptical training, using a stair-step machine.

OBS

[Weight-bearing exercises include:] walking, dancing, jogging, stair climbing, racquet sports and hiking.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Conditionnement physique et culturisme
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Racquet Sports
DEF

The result of hitting the tennis ball with a tennis racquet; sometimes refers to the actual placement of the ball or manner in which it is struck.

CONT

A shot is the combination of a stroke and the situation in which it is used.

OBS

"Long" is an informal expression used to indicate that a shot went out past the baseline. Important nuance: a "stroke" implies early preparation and a complete follow through. If one were to envision a stroke, one would see a series of sequences, ending with a "shot", i.e. the result of all of the above. Consequently, a "shot" is the result of the "stroke". "Shot" implies a quick, sharp movement because one is focusing on the end result, not the series of sequences leading up to it. A "blow" is rather an imprecise, general term similar in meaning to "shot". Although many would like to maintain these nuances in English, "shot" and "stroke" are often used synonymously. "Blow" is used only rarely. Note, however that although there are two possible equivalents ("coup" and "frappe") in French, neither are semantically identical to the English offerings. The Spanish term "pegada" works well as an equivalent for "shot", although technically the term more specifically refers to the actual hitting action caused by the racket coming in contact with the ball, and not to the end result [cause vs effect].

CONT
