La ciprofloxacine, fluoroquinolone synthétique, possède une action bactéricide.

Les symptômes, chez les malades du Sida, sont très variables : certains patients sont asymptomatiques, d'autres souffrent de diarrhées et de fièvre, voire de choc septique. Les fluoroquinolones (p. ex. la ciprofloxacine (Ciproxin) 2 X 200 mg i.v. ou (2 X 500 mh p.o.) par jour ont une grande efficacité contre Salmonella non-typhi, Campylobacter, et Shigella.
