Aplastic anemia is a rare but extremely serious disorder that results when the marrow fails to produce blood cells. Aplastic anemia may be either acquired or inherited. Myelodysplasia is similar to aplastic anemia in that production of blood cells is decreased; however, the blood cells which are produced in myelodysplasia may not function properly. Aplastic anemia patients who do not receive a bone marrow transplant may go on to develop myelodysplasia which, in turn, can progress to leukemia. 3, record 1, English, - Aplastic%20Anemia%20%26%20Myelodysplasia%20Association%20of%20Canada

Marrow Colony Assay is designed to quantitate the frequency of progenitor cells(BFU-E and CFU-GM) in the marrow and to determine if BFU-E and CFU-GM mature appropriately under optimal conditions in culture. This assay may help discriminate pure red cell aplasia that results from an immunologic process(where BFU-E growth is normal in culture) from pure red cell aplasia secondary to myelodysplasia(where BFU-E growth is low or absent). 3, record 2, English, - burst%2Dforming%20unit%20erythrocyte
