Record 1 2023-05-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medication
  • Urinary Tract
CONT

Proximal convoluted tubule diuretics. The proximal convoluted tubule is the primary site for NA+ [sodium ion] reabsorption and seems a likely site for effective diuretic action. However, the number of downstream reabsorption sites limits the effectiveness of any diuretic targeting this region. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are the only commonly used diuretics that particularly target this region although they are rarely used primarily as diuretics. They work by blocking the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which acts to help reabsorb bicarbonate in the proximal tubule.

OBS

Acetazolamide is an example of a proximal diuretic.

CONT

Sodium is highly reactive, forming a wide variety of compounds with nearly all inorganic and organic anions. It has a valence of +1, and its single valence electron is lost with great ease, yielding the colourless sodium ion(Na+).

Les nitrates sont en effet des sels très solubles (l'ion nitrate, NO3- est toujours associé à un ion positif comme l'ion sodium Na+ ou l'ion potassium K+ par exemple et se trouve donc dans la nature sous forme de sel).

OBS

pluriel : des ions sodium.

CONT

The chloride ion Cl- gives up its excess negative charge (electron) with the consequent formation of free radicals Cl.

CONT

... if sodium bisulfate(Na+HSO4-) or ammonium chloride(NH4+Cl-) is used as an acid, the sodium ion(Na+) and the chloride ion(Cl-) contribute nothing to the acidic properties...

OBS

Every anion is necessarily an ion; an ion must be either an anion or a cation.

CONT

Soil particles are usually slightly basic, or alkaline, in distilled water and release into solution base cations(positive ions) such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium(CA++, Mg++, K+ and Na+), with bicarbonate usually the corresponding anion, or negative ion.

DEF

a mechanism that has been identified in many cells and probably occurs in all, which maintains the internal concentration of potassium ion(K+) higher than that in the surrounding medium(blood, body fluid, water) and internal concentration of sodium ions(Na+) very much lower than that of the surrounding medium.

OBS

such pumps do not generally alter the distribution of electric charge across the membrane and hence do not produce a current. The resting potential of cells and related bioelectric phenomena such as the action potential depend on the steady state difference in concentrations of Na+ and K+ maintained by the pump.

CONT

The ammonium ion(NH4+) in rain and snow tends to increase the pH. In coastal areas sea spray may contribute significantly to the chemistry of precipitation. Here the important ions added are the ones most abundant in seawater, namely the cations Na+ and Mg+(sodium and magnesium), the anion Cl-(chloride) and to a lesser extent cations ion of calcium and potassium(Ca++, K+) and anions of sulfate(SO4--).
