Potato virus Y tuber necrosis strain(PVYNTN</sup>) causes a serious disease of potatoes called potato tuber necrotic ringspot disease which results in dark unsightly rings on tubers. PVYNTN</sup> is a genetic recombinant strain of potato virus Y.

Potato virus Y strain NTN(PVYNTN) should not be confused with potato virus YN(PVYN), which manifests only foliar symptoms.

Parmi les souches recombinantes, les souches PVYN:O, PVYN-Wi et PVYNTN sont celles qui sont le plus souvent détectées. Quant à la souche PVYNTN, elle est celle qui préoccupe le plus en raison de son agressivité et à cause des craquelures et des nécroses dans les tubercules qui, selon les variétés infectées, causent des pertes importantes sur le plan économique.

Ne pas confondre la souche NTN du virus Y de la pomme de terre (souche PVYNTN avec la souche de la nécrose des nervures du tabac du virus Y de la pomme de terre (PVYn), qui ne présente que des symptômes foliaires.
