The principles of soil spectroscopy are based in nuclear physics. Elements in the soil react in unique ways to the energy from the electromagnetic spectrum, reflecting some wavelengths and absorbing others. The reflected wavelengths give scientists clues to which minerals and elements are present and in what quantities. That information can then be related to certain soil properties, like whether it's suitable for certain crops, or whether it's effectively sequestering carbon. 2, record 5, English, - soil%20spectroscopy

[A] thermonuclear bomb, also called hydrogen bomb, or H-bomb, [is a] weapon whose enormous explosive power results from an uncontrolled self-sustaining chain reaction in which isotopes of hydrogen combine under extremely high temperatures to form helium in a process known as nuclear fusion. The high temperatures that are required for the reaction are produced by the detonation of an atomic bomb. A thermonuclear bomb differs fundamentally from an atomic bomb in that it utilizes the energy released when two light atomic nuclei combine, or fuse, to form a heavier nucleus. 4, record 18, English, - hydrogen%20bomb

One of the earliest proposals was that the dark matter is composed of neutrinos. First postulated in order to solve problems involving the conservation of energy and momentum in nuclear decay, neutrinos interact very weakly with normal matter and are thus extremely difficult to detect. Nevertheless, three kinds of neutrinos, called the electron neutrino, the muon neutrino and the tau neutrino, have now been found experimentally. 2, record 50, English, - muon%20neutrino

1, record 60, French, - acc%C3%A9l%C3%A9rateur%20de%20particules%20pour%20la%20production%20d%27%C3%A9nergie

A tokamak is a toroidal plasma confinement device invented in the 1950s by the Russians Tamm and Sakharov. The word "tokamak" is a contraction of the Russian words: "toroidalnaya", "kamera", and "magnitnaya", meaning "toroidal chamber-magnetic." The plasma is confined here not by the material walls (which wouldn’t be compatible with a plasma which will be millions of degrees Celsius), but by magnetic fields. Physicists have been working since the 1950s on making better "magnetic bottles", a problem which has been compared to holding jello (the plasma) with rubber bands (the magnetic field). The magnetic fields in a tokamak are produced by a combination of currents flowing in external coils and currents flowing within the plasma itself. This contrasts to a similar concept, the stellarator, in which all of the confining magnetic fields are produced by external coils. 4, record 61, English, - JT%2D60

The Petrogen® Liquid Fuel Cutting System is a solid, proven technology that brings you unequally safety, performance, and cost savings. Petrogen makes cuts that are impossible with any other torch, incredibly fast and clean with less airborne contaminants. Petrogen cuts up to 14 inches of steel. The powerful flame easily cuts through layers and across air gaps, through rust, paint, even concrete-backed steel without popping. Petrogen fuel is regular liquid gasoline, kept liquid from the tank to the tip. The Petrogen System is much safer than compressed gas systems such as acetylene or propane. Fuel line backflash is impossible! Many built-in safety features provide the safest cutting torch made. [Text followed by an illustration.] 2, record 76, English, - Petrogen%C2%AE%20torch

One of the earliest proposals was that the dark matter is composed of neutrinos. First postulated in order to solve problems involving the conservation of energy and momentum in nuclear decay, neutrinos interact very weakly with normal matter and are thus extremely difficult to detect. Nevertheless, three kinds of neutrino, called the electron neutrino, the muon neutrino and the tau neutrino, have now been found experimentally. 1, record 77, English, - tau%20neutrino

In a nuclear electric propulsion system, heat from a nuclear reactor is converted to electrical energy either by direct thermoelectric or thermionic conversion. NEP provides higher power, thrust, and specific impulse than a SEP [solar electric propulsion] system, although the thrust still pales to insignificance compared to our chemical rockets. For a comparison specific impulse of chemical rockets is about 400secs, Deep Space 1 uses SEP and produces around 3300secs, NEP on the other hand could produce specific impulse as high as 13, 000secs. 1, record 80, English, - nuclear%20electric%20propulsion

The planar detector consists of a crystal of either rectangular or circular cross section and a sensitive thickness of 1-20 mm... The electric field is perpendicular to the cross-sectional area of the crystal. The crystal thickness is selected on the basis of the gamma-ray energy region relevant to the application of interest, with the small thicknesses optimum for low-energy measurements(for example in the L-x-ray region for special nuclear material). Planar detectors usually achieve the best energy resolution, because of their low capacitance; they are preferred for detailed spectroscopy, such as the analysis of the complex low-energy gamma-ray and x-ray spectra of uranium and plutonium. 1, record 94, English, - planar%20detector

2, record 94, French, - d%C3%A9tecteur%20planaire
