... much of the [aviation English] training should focus on acquiring proficiency in the essential operational functions of radiotelephony : orders; requests; offers to act; advice; undertakings; sharing information about past, present and future; expressing necessity, feasibility and capacity, etc.... In routine situations, the information in the functions mentioned above can be largely and most properly transmitted using standard phraseology. However, in non-routine, unusual or abnormal situations, there will be a need for plain language to clarify, paraphrase or provide additional information, for example, to describe a system failure, a passenger's state of health or an obstacle on the runway.

This workshop will expose participants to proven operational models for planning and managing geomatics techology transfer activities. Such activities have as their goals the sustainable transfer of geomatics data, products, tools and capabilities to international clients. The models are based on three principles of risk management : technical feasibility, practical availability and sustainability. The workshop provides both supplier-based and recipient-based perceptions of the technology transfer process. The presentation-based half-day program includes an extensive workshop manual and will be illustrated with real world examples drawn from the authors’ extensive international technology transfer experience. Les auteurs donneront en outre des exemples concrets tirés de leur vaste expérience internationale dans le domaine du transfert de technologies. Symposium international «La géomatique à l'ère de RADARSAT» qui eut lieu à Ottawa en 1997.

In 1990 a research project was funded by the Commission of the European Communities, within the frame of the funding programme EPOCH with the aim of evaluating the possibility of such integration. The project, which title was "A Comprehensive Forecasting System for Flood Risk Mitigation and Control"(AFORISM)(Todini, 1995c) aimed at verifying different approaches in rainfall modelling as well as in rainfall-runoff modelling and their integration in a decision support system both for planning and for real time flood forecasting and management. In order to do so a feasibility study, based upon the Reno river, aiming at integrating all the innovative technologies in an operational decision support tool for flood forecasting and flood impact analysis was carried out by the following research groups.
