OPERATIONAL FEATURE [6 records]

Record 1 2013-05-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Transmission Systems (Motor Vehicles and Bicycles)
  • Wheeled Vehicles (Military)
  • Trucking (Road Transport)
CONT

The operational requirement to deliver some of this construction equipment to off-road sites mandated the all-wheel-drive feature.

OBS

Compare with "four-wheel drive", which can be considered as a synonym in most contexts, since most vehicles have four wheels, and which is more frequently used.

OBS

all wheel drive: term standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • all-wheel drive
  • all-wheel-drive
  • all-wheel-drive system
  • all-wheel
  • AWD

French

Domaine(s)
  • Transmission (Véhicules automobiles et bicyclettes)
  • Véhicules à roues (Militaire)
  • Camionnage
DEF

OBS

No debe confundirse con doble tracción permanente.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Spacecraft
DEF

A remote sensing instrument whose viewing angle is rotated to the right.

OBS

Whereas RADARSAT-1 is a solely right-looking system, RADARSAT-2 will be outfitted with an antenna that can be steered electronically to acquire images to either the right or the left of the sub-satellite track... The switch from one look direction to the other is specified to take less than 10 minutes, that is, about one tenth of the time required to complete one full orbit. Although the look direction switching is an operational feature, the right-looking configuration is regarded as the default mode of operation. Hence, it is expected that about 75% of the imaging will be performed in this particular mode. The left-looking mode will be deployed on occasion; primarily to meet data requirements associated with Antarctic mapping and emergency situations(CSA, 2001).

OBS

right-looking sensor: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

Key term(s)
  • right looking sensor

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télédétection
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Engins spatiaux
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Orbital Stations
CONT

An Exposed Payload Facility is planned for Columbus. It will consist of two separate support structures attached to the Columbus Pressurized Module end cone in the zenith and nadir positions.

CONT

The principal new feature for an exposed payload facility is the presence of a single, multi-purpose robotic servicing capability. Whilst providing a substantial amount of operational flexibility, this feature requires that careful consideration be given to accommodation aspects.

OBS

exposed payload facility; EPF: term and abbreviation officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

PHR

COF Exposed Payload Facility (EPF).

Domaine(s)

CONT
