The program ensures the level of preparedness necessary to protect the Canadian public. In the 1980's the Typhoon Committee carried out the Typhoon Operational Experiment(TOPEX) to test the typhoon warning system under real thyphoon conditions. The 3-year project produced a useful data set and enabled Typhoon Committee Members to greatly improve their forecasting ability and measures related to disaster preparedness.
