The Zarya control module, also known by the technical term Functional Cargo Block and the Russian acronym FGB, was the first component launched for the International Space Station and provides the station's initial propulsion and power.... The U. S.-funded and Russian-built Zarya, which means Sunrise when translated to English, is a U. S. component of the station although it was built and launched by Russia.... The Zarya module is 41. 2 feet long and 13. 5 feet wide at its widest point. It has an operational lifetime of at least 15 years. Its solar arrays and six nickel-cadmium batteries can provide an average of 3 kilowatts of electrical power. Using the Russian Kurs system, the Zarya will perform an automated and remotely piloted rendezvous and docking with the Service Module in orbit. Its docking power will accommodate Russian Soyuz piloted spacecraft and unpiloted Progress resupply spacecraft. Each of the two solar arrays is 35 feet long and 11 feet wide. The module's 16 fuel tanks combined can hold more than 6 tons of propellant. The attitude control system for the module includes 24 large steering jets and 12 small steering jets. Two large engines are available for reboosting the spacecraft and making major orbital changes. 6, record 5, English, - Zarya%20control%20module

The primary application of the new spacecraft would be as an International Space Station "lifeboat, "which would be delivered to the station by the Space Shuttle. The project also aims to develop a design that could be modified easily for other uses, such as a possible joint U. Dextre [Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator] is designed so that only one arm can move at a time in order to avoid self-collision, achieve greater stability and maintain operational similarity with Canadarm2. The greater stability is provided by the immobile arm, which is first commanded to anchor Dextre to an ISS [International Space Station] stabilization point. At the tip of each arm, we find a "hand", known technically as the Orbital Replacement Unit/Tool Changeout Mechanism(OTCM). The OTCM consists of a set of parallel retractable jaws, which serve to grip payloads and tools. Each OTCM is also equipped with a retractable motorized socket wrench to mate and demate mechanisms on-orbit, as well as lights and a black and white camera. Dextre lower body is equipped with a pair of pan/tilt colour cameras that allow astronauts aboard the ISS, and engineers on the ground, to monitor the task, which is out of direct eyesight. 1, record 15, English, - orbital%20replacement%20unit%2Ftool%20changeout%20mechanism

1, record 15, French, - changeur%20d%27outils%20et%20d%27unit%C3%A9s%20rempla%C3%A7ables%20sur%20orbite

The CST is also responsible for the positioning and station-keeping of all satellites in CNES's charge. Its capabilities in the field of satellite operations are so renowned that it is used by French prime contractors to orbit satellites for operators outside France. 2, record 34, French, - rendement%20fonctionnel

The "Microgravity" and "Standard" operational modes are the primary modes for carrying out research activities on the ISS [International Space Station]. These two modes have been specifically defined to optimise the gravity environment of the ISS for user research activities. The Microgravity Mode, as the name suggests, provides the most optimised microgravity environment. The Microgravity Mode has been defined to ensure that : 50% of the International Standard Payload Rack locations within the European Columbus, Destiny and Japanese Kibo laboratories must have quasi-steady state accelerations less than 1 micro-g for at least 30 days continuously, on six occasions each year". 2, record 35, English, - microgravity%20mode

Mode changes are usually controlled by the ground controller or by on-orbit crew input commands, but the transition to survival mode may be automatically initiated by the ISS. ...
