Subject field(s)

  • Sociology of Human Relations
  • Sexology
  • Rights and Freedoms
OBS

[Observed annually on May 17, the] Day represents an annual landmark to draw the attention of decision makers, the media, the public, opinion leaders and local authorities to the alarming situation faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms.

OBS

May 17 was first known as the "International Day against Homophobia" and mainstreamed through its acronym "I.DA.HO." In 2009, Transphobia was added explicitly in the title of the name, in the recognition of the very different issues at stake between sexual orientation and gender expression. "IDAHOT" became another popular acronym used alongside the initial one. Since 2015, Biphobia is added to the title, to acknowledge the specific issues faced by bisexual people.

OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Law of Contracts (common law)
CONT

That contract involved, in my view, an obligation on the part of Devon Lumber to use its best effort to fill as expeditiously as possible those purchase orders received by it from East Coast. I am satisfied that until May 17 that obligation had been met. But there could be no legal justification for Mr. Gill' s on that day, merely because East Coast indicated that it would claim a charge-back, unilaterally renouncing his company's further then-standing obligations. His doing so amounted, in my opinion, to at least a technical breach of his agreement with East Coast.(Recueil des arrêts du Nouveau-Brunswick, Maritime Law Book, 90 R. N.-B(2e) 291, à la p. 311)

  • Wind Energy
DEF

The kinetic energy from wind and its potential development at some distance from shore, as opposed to land-based wind energy.

CONT

On the day that the UK Government announced a major expansion in offshore wind energy which could power some 4 million homes by 2010, the British Wind Energy Association(BWEA) reveals new opinion poll figures showing strong support for the Government's renewable energy plans and confirming the popularity of wind power.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Énergie éolienne
DEF

OBS

Aujourd'hui on développe l'éolienne offshore.
