  • The Eye
DEF

Non-inflammatory edema of the optic nerve head, due to increased intracranial pressure, orbital tumor, blood dycrasias, etc.

OBS

It is termed "choked disk" when due to increased intracranial pressure.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Oeil
DEF

Record 2 2015-08-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tomography
  • The Eye
CONT

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a retinal scan used to study the anatomy of the retina in fine detail.

CONT

In January 2004, the Visual Electrodiagnostic Laboratory incorporated optical coherence tomography(OCT) and scanning laser ophthalmoscope(SLO/OCT) imaging to assess the retinal structural integrity in patients with disease of the macula and/or optic nerve head. These tools provide in vivo exquisite high resolution images of the optic nerve head and macula providing critical information to correlate structure with function.

Domaine(s)
  • Tomographie
  • Oeil
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Visual Disorders
DEF

A depression in the optic nerve head.

OBS

It may be physiological, confined to the centre of the disc; glaucomatous, extending to the edge of the disc and often deep with overhanging edges; postatrophic, shallow and saucer-like; or cavernous, very deep and thought to be arteriosclerotic in nature, as it is not associated with raised tension.

OBS

The term "cupping of the optic disc" was recommended by the Medical Signs and Symptoms Committee.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Troubles de la vision
DEF

Spanish
