OPTICAL BEHAVIOR [4 records]

Record 1 2012-04-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
  • Optics
CONT

Minerals are also divided into classes based upon their optical behavior. There are two broad optical classes : isotropic and anisotropic.

CONT

The [petrological identification] technique is based on the optical behavior of polarized light as it passes through the thin section of stone. Minerals refract the light in different ways because of their different crystal lattice configurations, allowing their identification.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralogie
  • Optique
CONT

Record 2 2003-12-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
DEF

The observation and measurement of forces acting at the surfaces of gases, liquids, and solids or at the interfaces between them. This includes the surface tension of liquids(vapor pressure, solubility) ;emulsions(liquid/liquid interfaces) ;finely divided solid particles(adsorption, catalysis) ;permeable membranes and microsporous materials; and biochemical phenomena such as osmosis, cell function and metabolic mechanisms in plants and animals. Surface chemistry has many industrial applications, a few of which are air pollution, soaps and synthetic detergents; reinforcement of rubber and plastics; behavior of catalysts; color and optical properties of paints; aerosol sprays of all types; monolayers and thin films, both metallic and organic.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
DEF

Process of adjusting an acquired image input pixel by pixel at the filter plane in order to adapt to non-ideal phase behavior in an optical correlator.

  • Intelligence artificielle
OBS

Projet de norme ISO sur la visionique.

Record 4 1977-05-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
OBS

The polarizing microscope may be assembled either for orthoscopic or conoscopic observation.(...) Conoscopic observation yields interference figures which represent an optical effect caused by the behavior of light in individual crystals.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralogie
OBS
