OPTICAL BINARY [5 records]

Record 1 2024-02-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optical Instruments
  • Electronics
CONT

A 2-and 3-b optical quantizer and photonic analog-to-digital converter are demonstrated. The quantizer system is primarily limited in the optical domain by the speed of the phase modulators. Converting the optical binary data into the electrical domain limits the data acquisition to the electronic readout circuitry.

OBS

photoélectrique : Cette graphie, puisée des Rectifications de l'orthographe recommandées par le Conseil supérieur de la langue française, est attestée dans le Petit Robert (2004).

CONT

Detour phase is the design principle … and is the core concept behind binary holograms, where the amplitude and the phase of the optical field are imposed by an array of apertures on an opaque screen. In a typical binary hologram, the dimension of each aperture sets the amount of light passing through it.

CONT

A number of publications by various groups have recently described halftone screen preprocessing techniques for achieving nonlinear nonmonotonic amplitude or irradiance transformations in coherent optical systems.... The two basic steps to the procedure include(1) an optical pulsewidth modulation to convert the continuous level input to an ideally binary halftoned input and(2) selection of various diffraction orders in the Fourier plane of a coherent optical processor to produce the continuous desampled output.

DEF

An optical device that scans and converts printed images to a form the computer can manipulate, i. e. binary or digital form.

OBS

Digital scanning equipment. Converting printed images to a form the computer can manipulate requires that the image be digitized. The equipment that does this includes digitizing tablets and a variety of optical scanning devices [e.g. flatbed scanners, Laser image scanners, video digitizers, video cameras, and flying spot scanners].

CONT

Just as text processing systems convert words into a digital database, scanners convert continuous-tone and line illustrations into files of digital computer data to form a graphics database; images can be recalled and reconstructed on screen for editing and integrating with text prior to output on film.

DEF

Appareil optique qui balaie et convertit des images imprimées en format numérique, c.-à-d. en un réseau d'éléments discrets.

OBS

En France, le Journal officiel préconise la graphie : scanneurs.

OBS

Certaines sources, notamment le Robert, qualifient l'adjectif «digital» d'anglicisme.

[Optical binary is] Two stars at different distances nearly lined up in projection so that they appear close together, but which are not really dynamically associated.

OBS
