CONT

USA [United States of America] overpowered by England. The USA closed out their World Cup warm-up tour with a 52-14 defeat to England at Sandy Park on Saturday. A superior kicking game and the strength of the Red Roses forwards proved too much in a one-sided first half, but the Eagles restored some confidence with a committed second half showing.

CONT

Placekicking is the phase of the kicking game that you’ll use when your team attempts to score a point after touchdown (PAT) or kicking a field goal; your team will attempt a field goal if the drive has been stopped and the team is close enough to the opponent’s goal line. ... During this phase of the kicking game, three players use special techniques: the kicker (who makes the kick), the holder (who catches the ball from the center and places it on the tee), and the center, (also known as the short snapper (who centers the ball back to the holder).

OBS

All of these verbs not only are more or less of the same meaning in the world of tennis, they are all transitive verbs. For intransitive verbs, see "win". In Spanish, the generic verb "superar" can often mean "to beat", "to defeat", as well as "to surpass", "to go beyond", "to get through" and "to overcome" (el tenista superó (batió) el récord mundial). Nonetheless it is always used transitively. The Spanish verb "ganar" , unlike its intransitive equivalent in English (i.e. win) can become an indirect transitive verb and in so doing takes on the additional meaning of defeating or beating. To rout is to defeat decisively.

St George’s Day is celebrated by the several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint. Most countries that observe St George’s Day celebrate it on 23 April, the traditionally accepted date of Saint George’s death in 303 AD. This day is May 6 for Eastern Orthodox Churches who use the Julian calendar for 2011 it has been moved to the 25th for those on the New Calendar due to it falling on Holy Saturday. ... Countries that celebrate St George’s Day include England, Canada, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Republic of Macedonia. Cities include Moscow in Russia, Genova in Italy, Ljubljana in Slovenia, Beirut in Lebanon, Qormi and Victoria in Malta and many others. It is also celebrated in the old kingdoms and counties of the Crown of Aragon in Spain—Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, and Palestine.

OBS

St. George’s Day is not an official national holiday in Canada. It is, however a provincial holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador, where it is usually observed on the Monday nearest April 23rd.

OBS

St. George is the patron saint of England. He is the patron of soldiers and archers, cavalry and chivalry, of farmers and field workers, Boy Scouts and butchers, of horses, riders and saddlers. He is also the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, Genoa Georgia, Germany, Greece, Istanbul, Lithuania, Moscow, Palestine, Portugal, and of Venice(second to St. Mark). According to legend, St. George, a soldier of the Imperial Army, rescues a town in what is now Libya from the tyranny of a people-eating dragon. St. George overpowered the beast and then offered to kill it if the townspeople would convert to Christianity and be baptized. The story is that there were 15, 000 conversions on the spot. Openly espousing Christianity was dangerous and eventually the authorities of Emperor Diocletian arrested George. He was martyred about 303 AD.

OBS
