Subject field(s)
  • Petrography
  • Tectonics
CONT

Firstly, the crenulation must be analysed to determine the initial foliation, termed S1, and the overprinting subsequent foliation, termed S2.... Eventually, the crenulation foliation overprints the S1 foliation. In extreme cases, the S2 foliation will obliterate the previous foliation, especially in wet rocks which have compositions amenable to growth of minerals at that time.

OBS

S1 foliation: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

  • Erosion and Weathering (Geol.)
CONT

Alteration patterns at Sullivan are complicated by a postore overprinting by an albite-chlorite-pyrite alteration that is most extensively developed in the hanging wall of the deposit...

CONT

Complex, irregular ore and alteration patterns are due, in part, to the superposition or overlap of mineral and alteration zones of different ages.

OBS

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géochimie
  • Érosion et corrosion (Géologie)
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Tectonics
CONT

Two concepts are important : deformation phases and metamorphic events. The first relates to specific periods during which a rock is deformed under the influence of a deviatoric stress field, leaving visible records such as folds, cleavages or lineations. Successive deformation phases may be superposed on each other leaving overprinting structures such as folded foliations, refolded folds or folded lineations.

CONT

orogeny - A major phase of deformation, folding and metamorphism of the Earth’s crust associated with continental collision, formation of mountains and igneous activity.

Subject field(s)
  • Inks and Colour Reproduction (Graphic Arts)
CONT

In process printing, the colors are cyan, yellow, magenta and black. To minimize one dot of a certain color overprinting another(thereby causing a strange, unpredictable effect) each color screen is printed at a different angle. Using this technique, many colors can be created. For example, a red is created by mixing equal amounts of yellow and magenta, but an orange is achieved by mixing more yellow than magenta... The intensity of the color is controlled by the size of the component dots. For example, a solid red is composed of 100% yellow and 100% magenta; a 50% red(more pink than red) is composed of 50% yellow and 50% magenta. To look at it a different way, the yellow and the magenta dots are twice as big in the solid red when compared to the 50% red. This technique is called “amplitude modulated screening”.

Strictly speaking, "surprinting" means imposing unscreened line art on a plate on which halftone art has already been printed. In this procedure, the continuous-tone art has become a halftone by prior screening, but the line art remains unscreened and therefore presents a better definition without a dot formation.

OBS

"Surprinting" may also mean printing over copy that has already been printed.
