Particles possessing equal terminal velocities. They are the oversize material and form the underflow of a classifier.

OBS

terminal velocity: The constant velocity acquired by a particle falling in water or air when the frictional resistance is equal to the gravitational pull.

OBS

equal-falling particles: term rarely used in the singular (equal-falling particle).

Key term(s)
  • equal-settling particles
  • equal-falling particle
  • equal-settling particle

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralurgie (Métallurgie)
  • Préparation des produits miniers
DEF

Particules dont les vitesses limites de chute libre dans un fluide donné, sous l'action de la pesanteur, sont égales.

OBS

particules équivalentes; particules équitombantes : termes rarement utilisés au singulier (particule équivalente; particule équitombante).

Key term(s)
  • particule équivalente
  • particule équitombante

CONT

While engineering a new system to load gypsum stucco for ceiling tile manufactured at a sister plant, the United States Gypsum Company plant in Sperry, Iowa, faced the challenge of screening gypsum materials at 30 tph in a low-headroom area. The raw material contained on-size and oversize gypsum particles, paper fuzz, blasting cord pieces and tramp metals from upstream mining and milling operations... In this low headroom space, U. S. Gypsum faced the challenge of laying out a separation system and a conveying system to move the screened gypsum to a bulk tanker truck.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Liants et mastics (Construction)

Subject field(s)
  • Mineral Processing (Metallurgy)
  • Processing of Mineral Products
DEF

A portion of a test sample retained on a sieve of aperture size X mm; it is designated by + X mm.

CONT

Materials rejected by the aperture (overs) discharge over the far end ... When the particle is ... large, ... it will pass over the entire screen and be rejected with the overs.

OBS

oversize: term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralurgie (Métallurgie)
  • Préparation des produits miniers
DEF

Portion d'une charge retenue par un tamis ayant la dimension d'ouverture de X mm; elle est désignée par + X mm.

CONT

[...] les grains de dimensions supérieures sont retenus et évacués séparément. [...] on obtient la surclasse ou refus.

OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineral Processing (Metallurgy)
DEF

An operation in which ferroalloy particles(lumps) retained on a sieve after sieving are oriented by hand in such a manner that the possibility of their passing through the sieve will be established with a clear classification of the retained particles(lumps) as oversize.

OBS

Term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralurgie (Métallurgie)
DEF
