Ampferer (A) subduction is when the continental crust plunges, as opposed to Benioff (B) subduction where it is the ocean crust that subducts. 5, record 2, English, - Ampferer%20subduction
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
A-subduction.-The movement of one continental lithospheric plate under another(subduction) in a collision zone, with the separation of part or all of the upper crust from the lower crust and mantle. The denser material subducts normally whilst the buoyant material can underthrust or overthrust the crust of the overriding plate. A-subduction, named after O. Ampferer, has also been called "delamination, "and is contrasted with B-subduction, named after Hugo Benioff, in which oceanic lithosphere subducts. A-subduction is postulated to involve shortening of a maximum of only a few hundred kilometres, whereas B-subduction can recycle thousands of kilometres of oceanic crust and upper mantle. 2, record 2, English, - Ampferer%20subduction

The term scale(French, "écaille") is employed with several different meanings; it may refer to a mass limited by an overthrust fault left in connection with its roots, which cannot be distinguished from a nappe of the second order, except by its smaller dimensions. The term may also refer to a nappe fragment that has been isolated between two other units, and which is considered secondary from the point of view of the interpretation. Finally, it may refer to secondary nappes resulting from the subdivision of a major nappe through folding. 1, record 12, English, - scale

1, record 13, French, - rabotage%20basal
