The third algorithm is the automatic segmentation of images into reasonable regions based on some similarity criterion while the fourth is an implementation of a bitonic sort of data which significantly overcomes the nearest neighbor interconnection constraints on the MPP [massively parallel processor] for transferring data between distant processors.

A parallel algorithm may involve a greater number of arithmetic operations than a serial counterpart. It is designed, however, so that many arithmetic operations an independent can be performed in parallel, i. e. simultaneously.

CONT

The key to developing a parallel inference algorithm is to exploit or introduce independencies. In the sequential Monte Carlo samplers, this independence can lead to high variance in the resulting estimate. In [other algorithms], the independence is only achieved by introducing approximations.

CONT

CONT

The progression of troubleshooting algorithms is based upon a qualitative approach... The method... is based upon the fundamental idea of a circuit, and is similar to that of the zero-order models... In a series circuit, one source of faults is the occurrence of opens within either of these paths, which will prevent current from flowing... Another source of faults is the presence of shorts to ground, which introduces non-resistive parallel paths into the circuit.... Opens and shorts to ground are types of faults that the troubleshooting algorithm is designed to diagnose.

CONT

Evolving in parallel with device models is a sequence of troubleshooting algorithms for locating opens and shorts to ground.
