Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
A bodybuilding exercise performed by completing the following movements : grasp a fixed bar(chin-up bar) with an overhand grip(palms facing away from your body) and your hands slightly larger than a shoulder-width apart. Let yourself hang with your feet not in contact with the floor. Using your abdominal muscles, raise your legs forward(with the knees bent or straight) until your thighs are about parallel with the floor, then slowly return to the starting position. 4, record 1, English, - hanging%20leg%20raise
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Although technically there is a difference between a leg raise and a knee raise (the legs are straight in the first case and bent at the knees in the second), the sources consulted often do not make this distinction because the movement is the same and the exercise is intended to develop the same muscles. 4, record 1, English, - hanging%20leg%20raise

Squat down towards the bar until your upper thigh is parallel to the floor. Next, grab the bar with a mixed grip with one hand overhand and one hand underhand. Now, drive your hips upward by contracting your quads and glutes. You are attempting to bring the weight upwards as you stand up. As the bar is being lifted off of the floor, begin to straighten your back up so that it is fully erect. This will utilize the muscles in the back. Keep shoulders over bar and elbows extended(arms straight) as long as possible. When lower body joints reach full extension, rapidly shrug the shoulders upward, but do not let elbows flex yet. As shoulders reach their highest elevation, flex elbows to begin pulling body under bar. Continue to pull arms as high and as long as possible.... feet may lose contact with floor. Catch phase : after lower body has fully extended and bar reaches near maximal height, pull body under bar and rotate arms around and under bar. Simultaneously, hips and knees flex into a quarter squat position. Once arms are under bar, lift elbows to position the upper arms parallel to floor. Rack the bar across front of clavicles(collar bones) and anterior deltoids(front shoulder muscles).... Stand up by extending hips and knees to a fully erect position. The attitude indicator (also called the artificial horizon or the gyro horizon) provides the pilot with an artificial horizon as a means of reference when the natural horizon cannot be seen because of cloud, fog, rain or other obstructions to visibility... The natural horizon is represented by a horizon bar on the face of the instrument. 4, record 16, English, - natural%20horizon
Record number: 16, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The attitude indicator relies on the principle of gyroscopic rigidity in space--the rapidly-spinning rotor disk resists any attempt to disturb its orientation. Thus, the gyro provides a stable horizontal reference against which the pitch and roll attitudes of the aircraft can be measured. The "artificial horizon bar" on the face of the attitude indicator is mechanically coupled to the gyro inside, so it remains parallel to the natural horizon. The instrument's little "symbolic airplane" is fixed to the instrument case, however, so it follows the roll and pitch movements of the real airplane. Consequently, the relationship of the horizon bar to the symbolic airplane is the same as the relationship between the natural horizon and the real airplane. 5, record 16, English, - natural%20horizon

a measure of the average gradient of sensitometric curve. The slope of two parallel lines drawn 0. 1 coordinate units apart framing the sensitometric curve. One line is tangent to the high-density portion(shoulder) of the curve; the other line is tangent to the low-density portion(toe) of the curve. Bar "gamma" is the slope of the framing lines and is expressed as the tangent of the angle made by the lines and the log exposure base line. Bar "gamma" is normally used in micrographics to express the contrast of diazo and vesicular films. 1, record 25, English, - bar%20gamma

1, record 25, French, - gamma%20barr%C3%A9

Electrolytic reduction(smelting) [of aluminum].(...) Carbon anodes are hung from above the cells with their lower ends extending to within about 1. 5 in.(3. 8 cm) of the molten metal, which forms a layer under the molten bath.(...) Current is led out of the cell to the anode bus bar by a number of carbon block anodes suspended in parallel rows on vertical conducting rods of copper or aluminum. Because impurities in the anodes dissolve in the bath as they are consumed, pure carbon(calcined petroleum coke or pitch coke) is used as raw material. 2, record 27, English, - carbon%20anode

Ovens can, of course, be hand loaded with pans or straps. This arduous task is accomplished by mechanical means in nearly all large volume shops, however. The principle of operation of loading devices is relatively simple. Pans move over roller conveyors form the final steam proofer to a point in front of the relatively oven loading door. Their momentum carries them onto a series of rollers at right angles to the previous conveyor and parallel to the oven door. When a series of pans the width of the tray or hearth has collected, they are pushed into the oven. A retractable metal bar prevents additional pans from coming onto the loading platform while the pusher bar is operating. 1, record 29, English, - loading%20device

Although the one-hundred percent chart is shown in stratum form, a parallel columnar version would be equally effective. In our illustration the bars are shown in vertical, or "columnar" arrangement.
