The coal or ore is mined in rooms separated by narrow ribs or pillars. The coal or ore in the pillars is won by subsequent working, which may be likened to top slicing, in which the roof is caved in successive blocks. The hot wedge or hot knife method consists of an electronically heated resistance element in the shape of a blade that is passed between the two sheets to be sealed. As it melts the surfaces, roller pressure is applied. An interesting variation is the dual-hot-wedge method, which forms two parallel seams with an unbonded space between them. This space is subsequently pressurized with air and any lowering of pressure signifies a leak in the seam. 1, record 11, English, - pressurized%20dual%20seam%20test

There are three ways to tell whether gaffs are sharpened properly. Step 1 : Three ways to maintain climbers : 1. 1. Gauging. This method checks the gaff's length, width, and thickness and the profile of its point.... 1. 2. Plane test. This method may be used with the gauge or independently if the gaffs are sharpened by machine. The test is made by using a soft board to tell whether proper sharpness has been reached. Place the climber with the gaff side down and parallel to the board without applying downward pressure above the gaff. Push the climber along the board. If the gaff is properly contoured and sharpened, it will dig into the wood and hold within approximately one inch. If the climber continues to glide along the board for more than one inch, it needs more honing. 1. 3. Pole cutout. Similar Triangles. When viewing objects in the real world, the light rays from the objects within the viewer's field of view enter the eye radially rather than in parallel as in the orthographic projection. The eye is very small compared to the scene it is viewing, and the light rays are projected to the point(the eye) rather than a plane. The equations for the projection are derived using the "similar triangles" method, where the triangle formed by the viewer's eye, space z, and space point is similar to that formed by the eye, the screen distance from the viewer's eye, and the screen point. 1, record 25, English, - similar%20triangles

Correction Lines.... the meridians are converging lines that meet at the poles. Like the meridians, the range lines also converge as the run north from the 49th parallel. As a result, the top or northern border of any town ship must measure slightly less in distance than its base or southern border.... This, of course, was a situation that the surveyors wanted to avoid, since the whole intent of the grid system was to create parcels of land of approximately the same size. To reduce distortion caused by the converging range lines, the surveyors used the following method. The second township line north of the 49th parallel and every fourth township line thereafter were established as correction line. At each correction line, the range line is displaced a certain distance. This jog, as it is called, in effect increases the area of the townships north of each correction line, thereby compensating somewhat for the convergence. The jogs in the range lines west of any meridian are accumulative. That is, if you follow a correction line west from any meridian, you will find that the jogs you first encounter are very small. The jogs increase as you move west from range line to range line. 3, record 26, English, - Correction%20Line

Fiber Length. Traditionally, the fiber length distribution or weighted average fiber length of a pulp sample has been determined either by microscopic examination of a representative number of fibers, by means of a special drainage grid, or by screen classification of a sample into different length fractions.... In the classification method, a dilute suspension of fibers is made to flow at high velocity parallel to screen slots, while a much slower velocity passes through the slots. In this way, the fibers are presented lengthwise to a series of selected screens with successively smaller mesh openings, and only the fibers short enough to bridge the openings pass into the next chamber. The Turam method [of electromagnetic exploration differs from the Sundberg method] in that the ratio of field intensities at two points is observed rather than the intensity at a single point. As with the Sundberg method, two frequencies within the 100-to 800-Hz range are employed. A cable several kilometers long is laid out as a source parallel to the expected strike and is grounded at both ends. Measuring coils are read in pairs along lines perpendicular to the cable, the spacing between them generally being about 25 m. In-phase and out-of-phase ratios are observed as well as amplitude ratios and phase-angle differences. 1, record 49, English, - Turam%20method
