2, record 6, French, - rayon%20cr%C3%A9pusculaire

Simultaneous engineering is understood to mean an integrated, parallel approach to designing the product and the process at the same time, e. g. in vehicle development. The basic idea of this concept is to move from formerly strictly sequential, discrete processes towards carrying them out in parallel or overlapping them. 3, record 27, English, - simultaneous%20engineering
Record number: 27, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Design process is defined as being the whole of the tasks necessary for an idea, originating from customer needs, to be achieved as a product or service satisfying the said customer’s needs. Some of these tasks are sequential, but as the "time to market" (development cycle) has to be shorter every day, several tasks are led in parallel: risk studies are launched even before having finished the functional analysis, etc... This concept is named Simultaneous Engineering, or Competing Engineering or Integrated Development. It is supported by a serie of methodologic tools, based on quality (Quality Function Deployment - QFD, Value Analysis, Functional Analysis, FMEA, Design For Manufacturing, ...) and organization (Project Group, Process Organization, ...) as well as on technologic means (Computer Assisted Design, Computer Assisted Manufacturing, Fast Prototype Process, ...). 2, record 27, English, - simultaneous%20engineering

Dextre [Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator] is designed so that only one arm can move at a time in order to avoid self-collision, achieve greater stability and maintain operational similarity with Canadarm2. The greater stability is provided by the immobile arm, which is first commanded to anchor Dextre to an ISS [International Space Station] stabilization point. At the tip of each arm, we find a "hand", known technically as the Orbital Replacement Unit/Tool Changeout Mechanism(OTCM). The OTCM consists of a set of parallel retractable jaws, which serve to grip payloads and tools. Each OTCM is also equipped with a retractable motorized socket wrench to mate and demate mechanisms on-orbit, as well as lights and a black and white camera. Dextre lower body is equipped with a pair of pan/tilt colour cameras that allow astronauts aboard the ISS, and engineers on the ground, to monitor the task, which is out of direct eyesight. 1, record 30, English, - orbital%20replacement%20unit%2Ftool%20changeout%20mechanism

1, record 30, French, - changeur%20d%27outils%20et%20d%27unit%C3%A9s%20rempla%C3%A7ables%20sur%20orbite

Hauling with a pulley. Sometimes, the direction of the skidding trail or the narrowness of the track mean that the tractor and its winch cannot be positioned so that the trees are brought out in a straight line directly to the track. In that case, using a pulley makes it possible to bring the logs out indirectly by angling the path of the cable. Current is led out of the [electrolytic reduction] cell to the anode bus bar by a number of carbon block anodes suspended in parallel rows on vertical conducting rods of copper or aluminum. Because impurities in the anodes dissolve in the bath as they are consumed, pure carbon(calcined petroleum coke or pitch coke) is used as raw material. The ground coke is mixed hot with enough coal tar or petroleum pitch to bond it into a block when pressed in a mold to form the "green" anode. The cleaned and tempered wheat is now subjected to a series of grinding operations, of which the first five or six sets of rolls exert a crushing and shearing action. Known as the break system and designed primarily to bring about a far-reaching separation of the tough bran from the friable endosperm, this part of the grinding process is carried out on corrugated iron rolls, called break rolls, which revolve in opposite directions at different speeds. Each successive set of rolls takes the stock from the preceding one, after proper separation, so that they operate serially rather than in parallel. Proceeding from the first to the fifth or sixth break, the corrugations on the rolls become finer and the setting of the rolls progressively closer. 1, record 60, English, - break%20roll

A cable several kilometers long is laid out as a source parallel to the expected strike and is grounded at both ends. Measuring coils are read in pairs along lines perpendicular to the cable, the spacing between them generally being about 25 m. Many natural kaolinites identified in refractory earths turn out to be composed of layers of kaolinite type, but the stacking of the layers is disordered. Shifts parallel to the b axis take place between the layers. Changes in the X-ray diffraction pattern brought about by this irregular stacking lead to the characterization of these structures. 1, record 62, English, - disordered%20kaolinite
