When evaluating a patient who has evidence of cognitive decline, a number of reversible causes need to be excluded before one can diagnose a neurodegenerative pathology. One well‐known cause that needs to be excluded is depression.... Less commonly, other psychiatric conditions, such as mania, other psychoses, and conversion disorder, can also impair cognition and produce a similar clinical picture. Historically, this general phenomenon has been known as "pseudodementia"—defined as a psychiatric condition masquerading as neurodegenerative disease, but which is largely reversible when the psychiatric condition resolves or is successfully treated. 2, record 4, English, - pseudodementia

4, record 6, Spanish, - psicogeriatr%C3%ADa

High aspect ratio, or fiber-shaped, nanoparticles(HARNs), represent a growth area in nanotechnology as their useful properties become more apparent. Carbon nanotubes, the best known and studied of the HARNs, are handled on an increasingly large scale, with subsequent potential for human inhalation exposure. Their resemblance to asbestos fibers precipitated fears that they might show the same type of pathology as that caused by asbestos and there is emerging evidence to support this possibility. The large number of other HARNs, including nanorods, nanowires and other nanofibers, require similar toxicological scrutiny. In this article, we describe the unusual hazard associated with fibers, with special reference to asbestos, and address the features of fibers that dictate their pathogenicity as developed in the fiber pathogenicity paradigm. This paradigm is a robust structure-toxicity model that identifies thin, long, biopersistent fibers as the effective dose for fiber-type pathogenic effects. It is likely that HARNs will in general conform to the paradigm and such an understanding of the features that make fibers pathogenic should enable us to design safer HARNs. 3, record 8, English, - high%20aspect%20ratio%20nanoparticle

(Nanowerk News) A UK consortium of scientists, led by the Institute of Occupational Medicine, Edinburgh, has published a key report examining whether high aspect ratio nanoparticles(HARN) should raise the same concerns as asbestos fibres. HARN includes materials such as carbon nanotubes(CNT) and metal nanowires. The review, which was published by DEFRA [Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs] this week, identified many similarities between HARN and asbestos with regard to their physico-chemical properties and toxicological effects, and it concluded that there is sufficient evidence to suggest that HARN, which have the same characteristics(diameter, length and biopersitance) as pathogenic fibres such as asbestos, are likely to have similar pathology. 4, record 8, English, - high%20aspect%20ratio%20nanoparticle

A test for sacroiliac joint instability. With the patient lying supine, the examiner places his hands on the iliac crests with his thumbs on the anterior superior iliac spines and his palms on the iliac tubercules, and then compresses the pelvis toward the midline of the body. If the patient complains of pain around the sacroiliac joint, there may be pathology in the joint itself, such as infection, inflammation, or problems secondary to trauma. 2, record 41, English, - pelvic%20rock%20test

Skin rolling is performed over the thoracic spine from below upward, the skin being picked up between the thumbs and forefingers. As the thumbs are pushed up toward the head, the skin is rolled backward over them by the forefingers. Tightness and tenderness at any level indicates pathology in the bone or joints at that level. Skin rolling is then performed over the paravertebral areas to detect localized fibrositic infiltration or areas of muscle pathology. 1, record 42, English, - skin%20rolling

Dicrocoelium dendriticum is called the lancet liver fluke because of its characteristic shape. Unlike most other digenetic trematodes whose life cycles involve aquatic or marine hosts, the life cycle of this parasite is completely terrestrial involving a terrestrial snail as the first intermediate host and an ant as the second intermediate host. The definitive host, which includes sheep, cattle, goats, pigs and humans(rarely), is infected when it ingests ants that are infected with matacercariae. In the definitive host the parasite migrates into the bile duct and causes pathology similar to that caused by Clonorchis sinensis. This parasite is distributed throughout much of Europe and Asia, and it is also found in parts of North America and Australia. 4, record 44, English, - lancet%20liver%20fluke

The aggregation of protein molecules into long fibrils is a property of many proteins when they become damaged or denatured. Such aggregates are formed as part of the pathology of many diseases, including Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease. It is very important therefore to understand the fundamental reasons why proteins form such structures. Such understanding may eventually lead to therapies based upon interfering with the growth of the protein fibres. 3, record 54, English, - protein%20fibre

Black lung disease is the common name for coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (CWP) or anthracosis, a lung disease of older workers in the coal industry, caused by inhalation, over many years, of small amounts of coal dust. 2, record 72, English, - coal%20workers%20pneumoconiosis
Record number: 72, Textual support number: 2 OBS
anthracosis : A histological term describing the accumulation of black pigment in lung tissue or in other organs. In the lung the accumulation often appears as macular lesions, usually in a centrilobular location, along the walls of bronchioles, but also along interlobular septa or in the subpleural space. This pigment is mainly composed of carbonaceous material and may originate from cigarette smoke(or other smoked drugs, such as crack cocaine), atmospheric pollution, residential exposure to wood(or biomass) smoke or occupational exposure to carbon-containing dusts, such as diesel exhaust, soot, fly ash, carbon black, graphite and coal. Thus a more or less marked degree of anthracosis may be found in nonsmoking urban residents from heavily polluted areas or in inhabitants(often females) of poor countries with a cold climate(so-called ’hut lung’). Anthracosis is only rarely associated with overt pulmonary disease, except after prolonged, heavy, usually occupational exposure, when the condition is preferably labelled as a pneumoconiosis, e. g. graphite pneumoconiosis(graphitosis) or coal workers pneumoconiosis. The latter pneumoconiosis is often called anthracosilicosis(particularly in continental Europe), because this pneumoconiosis has been considered to be caused predominantly by the silica content of coal dust. While this may be true in many instances, the use of anthracosilicosis to indicate coal worker's pneumoconiosis is probably not entirely appropriate, because the pathology of coal workers pneumoconiosis is different from that of silicosis. 9, record 72, English, - coal%20workers%20pneumoconiosis

1, record 86, French, - occlusodontie

Prions are the cause of certain diseases, including bovine spongiform encephalopathy, otherwise known as the ’mad cow disease’, and the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease afflicting humans. They are still, however, a major biological puzzle. These "unconventional transmissible agents" afflicting humans as well as animals cause lethal degenerative diseases of the central nervous system in the bodies where they multiply.

Ecology plays more and more important role as an etiological factor of human diseases : congenital defects, tumours, immunodyzergies, hematopoietic and endocrine disorders. Two directions should be taken into consideration in establishing the role of ecology in human disease :pathology itself and ecogenic factor. The first one consists of the complex "populations at risk-pattern of mortality-ecogenic diseases, the second direction is "geography of potentially ecogenic diseases-correlation with geography of environmental pollution-eco-etiological factor". 2, record 95, English, - ecogenic

Statistical data show that … there were over twice as many cases of prematurity (miscarriages, preterm deliveries), developmental failures, injuries of the children’s nervous system and some malignant tumours (lungs, stomach, colon cancer). The increasing frequency of these pathologies is probably related to the increasing environmental pollution of the city. Therefore, the main stress of general environment … should be laid on the frequency of ecogenic diseases. 3, record 95, English, - ecogenic
