The maximum return temperature on this loop is 21 °C(70 °F). A pressure drop of 40 kPa(5. 8 psid) is allowed across the inlet and outlet of both water loop interfaces. Payloads can also dissipate small amounts of heat into the cabin air. Depending on the temperature conditions set by the crew, a minimum of 500 W can be dissipated into both the U. S. Lab and Columbus(complement of all payloads within the module). Negotiations are underway with Japan on the allowable heat dissipation into the JEM.

StratSat provides a geo-stationary platform at 20 km altitude capable of remaining on-station for up to five years. The most significant difference between RADARSAT-2 and RADARSAT-1 payload technology is that RADARSAT-2 uses a fully-active phased array antenna, rather than the passive slotted waveguide antenna used by RADARSAT-1. Fully-active phased arrays offer a number of very significant benefits over passive antenna, but they also add great complexity.... The phased array is made up of 512 individual radiating elements, organized into 16 columns(picture below shows a single column) along the 15-metre antenna length, each with 32 rows across the 1. 5-metre width. The phase shifters and amplitude control are built into the Transmit/Receive(T/R) modules, which feed the radiating elements. Each column has a computer that controls the 32 T/R module settings and these 16 computers are all linked to another computer(in the spacecraft bus) that orchestrates the overall antenna behaviour.

When it is completed, the K-1 will be the first commercially available, fully reusable launch vehicle to provide low-cost access to space for low earth-orbiting satellites. The K-1 is powered by modified Russian rocket engines, provided by Aerojet, that burn LOX (liquid oxygen) and kerosene. Thrust is produced when the appropriate mixture of LOX and kerosene is pumped into the combustion chamber and ignited.

The Leonardo Multipurpose Logistics Module, which was built by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), is the first of three such pressurized modules that will serve as the International Space Station’s "moving vans," carrying laboratory racks filled with equipment, experiments and supplies to and from the Station aboard the Space Shuttle. The unpiloted, reusable logistics modules function as both a cargo carrier and a Space Station module when they are flown. Mounted in the Space Shuttle’s cargo bay for launch and landing, they are berthed to the Station using the shuttle’s robotic arm after the shuttle has docked. While berthed to the Station, racks of equipment are unloaded from the module and then old racks and equipment may be reloaded to be taken back to Earth. The logistics module is then detached from the Station and positioned back into the Shuttle’s cargo bay for the trip home. When in the cargo bay, the cargo module is independent of the Shuttle cabin, and there is no passageway for Shuttle crewmembers to travel from the Shuttle cabin to the module. In order to function as an attached Station module as well as a cargo transport, the logistics modules also include components that provide some life support, fire detection and suppression, electrical distribution and computer functions. Eventually, the modules also will carry refrigerator freezers for transporting experiment samples and food to and from the station.

The Columbus External Payload Facility(CEPF) is a set of structures added to the starboard end-cone of the Columbus module intended to carry four payload adapters mechanically similar to those used in the NASA ExPRESS Pallet(ExP) programme [RD 2]. ... The Progress supply vehicle to the ISS [International Space Station] is an automated version of the Soyuz, and was developed to carry propellant and cargo to the Salyut and Mir space station. It will serve the same purpose for the ISS. Although the ISS has its own propulsion system, generally it is the Progress vehicle that will perform periodic reboost maneuvers to maintain the ISS orbital altitude. The Progress is approximately the same size as the Soyuz, but it has a slightly higher mass at launch of approximately 7150 kg. The Progress spacecraft docks automatically to the ISS, and the TORU [Teleoperated Control System-Manual Docking System on Zarya] system acts as a backup remote control docking system. Progress is composed of three modules : the Cargo Module, the Refueling Module, and the Instrument/Propulsion Module. A modified version of the Progress M, called the Progress M1, is planned for operation with the ISS. This version will have more propellant tanks for refueling, as the entire Refueling Module is devoted to fuel. Water will be carried in the Cargo Module. The Progress payload includes cargo in the pressurized Cargo Module and propellant in the Refueling Module. Excess propellant that is usually in the propulsion system tanks in the Instrumentation/Propulsion Module can also be used by the ISS.

Each NASA ISPR provides 1. 6 m³(55. 5ft³) of internal volume. The rack weighs 104 kg(230 lbm) and can accommodate an additional 700 kg(1543 lbm) of payload equipment. The Commercial Protein Crystal Growth-H experiment consists of 1, 008 individual experiments contained in a High-Density Protein Crystal Growth Assembly. This assembly is then stored in the Commercial Refrigerator Incubator Module(CRIM) at 22 degrees Celsius(72 degrees Fahrenheit). The Space Station crew will install the CRIM into a locker in the Space Station EXPRESS Rack 4 in the U. S. Lab, activate the crystal growth experiments and conduct daily status checks. These daily checks consist of checking temperature readings and cleaning the air filter. When the payload is scheduled to return to Earth, the crew will deactivate the experiments and return the module.

The Commercial Float Zone Furnace(CFZF) is a materials science crystal growth facility developed jointly by the Canadian Space Agency(CSA) and the German Space Agency(DARA). This payload will be launched in the SPACEHAB module on the Space Shuttle mission STS-77 by the NASA Office of Space Access and Technology. Twelve materials science experiments using four sample materials will be conducted by scientists from the three partner countries during this mission. The CFZF is designed to allow production of larger samples of industrially important material. The pure samples that will be produced are of great interest to the electronics industry; these samples will be large enough to allow evaluation of the space-based processes and to suggest improvements to around-based processing.
