Ces trois modules [Leonardo, Raffaello, Donatello] réutilisables seront employés comme un conteneur. Ils seront fixés dans la soute de navette, au décollage comme à l'atterrissage. Une fois en orbite et la navette amarrée à la station, ils seront fixés à la station grâce au bras robotique de la navette. Une fois fixés le chargement ou déchargement du matériel peut se faire, ensuite ils seront détachés de la station et remis dans la soute de la navette pour un retour sur terre. Une fois dans la soute, ils sont indépendants de la cabine de la navette, aucun passage n'est possible entre la navette et ces modules. Une fois attachés à la station, ils ont toutes les fonctions comme les autres modules, détection feu, pressurisation, électricité etc. Éventuellement ces modules peuvent être utilisés comme un réfrigérateur pour transporter des échantillons d'expérience ou de la nourriture pour et en provenance de la station. The Electrostatic Levitation Furnace(ELF)... is a Materials Research Facility that uses electrostatic levitation for containerless sample processing. Laser heating provides for sample heating to temperatures of up to 2000, ºC(3632ºF) in a gas atmosphere or under vacuum. Observation is provided by a pyrometer, a thermal imaging system and a video camera. Immediately after landing, the orbiter is towed to the Orbiter processing Facility(OPF) located west of the Vehicle Assembly Building(VAB). The orbiter then undergoes safing procedures in the OPF which include removing residual fuels and explosive ordnance items. Then the orbiter's previous mission payloads are removed and the vehicle is fully inspected, tested, and refurbished for its next mission. These functions require approximately two-thirds of the time between missions. The remainder is devoted to the installation and checkout of the payload for the next mission. The Commercial Float Zone Furnace(CFZF) is a materials science crystal growth facility developed jointly by the Canadian Space Agency(CSA) and the German Space Agency(DARA). This payload will be launched in the SPACEHAB module on the Space Shuttle mission STS-77 by the NASA Office of Space Access and Technology. Twelve materials science experiments using four sample materials will be conducted by scientists from the three partner countries during this mission. The CFZF is designed to allow production of larger samples of industrially important material.
