EXPRESS Rack Simulator. The ERS located in the PSC [Payload Support Center] is composed of three racks. The first is the EXPRESS Rack Mock-up, the second is the data acquisition system rack and the third is the water cooling rack. In addition to being able to accommodate payload that would mechanically interface with the 8/2 ER configuration, the rack will also accommodate different size ISIS drawers. There is a possibility that one of the CSA payloads will use a 12-PU drawer. For this reason the configuration of the EXPRESS Rack Mock-up was chosen to be 4/6, i. e. 4 MDL [Mid-Deck Storage Locker] and 6 ISIS [International Sub-rack Interface Standard] drawers. Essentially, the CSA rack is the bottom portion of the ER with 4 drawers added on the bottom. This configuration will permit the accommodation of single, double and quad MDL as well as 4-PU, 8-PU and 12-PU ISIS drawers. The ERS has the same mechanical interface and front panel layout than the EXPRESS Rack to provide higher fidelity during training for the ISS crew. This also provides a better verification environment. The ERS provides 28V to the payloads rated at 5, 10, 15 or 20 Amps but does not include the RIC or other ER equipment. This is why a Suitcase Simulator will be used to communicate with the payload in the rack. 1, record 5, English, - EXPRESS%20rack%20simulator

In designing ISS [International Space Station] to accommodate sub-rack payloads it became apparent that several advantages would be obtained if investigators building MLE-based [equipment [Mid-Deck Locker Equivalent-based] were provided with host racks with a standardized set of interfaces. Based on this the EXPRESS rack concept was born. EXPRESS stands for Expedite the PRocessing of Experiments to the Space Station. The purpose of the EXPRESS rack is to allow quick... and simple integration of payloads into the ISS. The EXPRESS Rack contains standard interfaces within an ISPR [International Standard Payload Rack] configuration to allow payloads quick and standard access to ISS resources. The EXPRESS Rack offers structural support hardware, power conversion and distribution equipment, data and video equipment, nitrogen and vacuum exhaust distribution hardware, and thermal support equipment. 3, record 7, English, - EXPRESS%20rack

The Payload Operations Control Center at the Marshall Space Flight Center is a NASA facility for monitoring, coordinating and controlling on-orbit operations of Spacelab payloads. It is also used for premission test and training activities. The Payload Operations Control Center allows users on the ground to support and interact with onboard mission activities and permits direct communication between the investigator on the ground and flight crew on orbit. It provides ground command capability to operate experiments, manage payload resources and operate payload support equipment. Its facilities and services for instrument monitoring and control are made available to all users who request them. Each user area has a standard set of support equipment and space for special instrument-dedicated ground support equipment. The Payload Carriers Team is responsible for MSFC' s [Marshall Space Flight Center] Payload Carriers which is made up of two type of carriers : the Spacelab Logistics Pallet(SLP) and the Multi-Purpose Equipment Support Structure(MPESS). The Payload Carriers "bridge the gap" in payload accommodations available in the Space Shuttle's Payload Bay by providing unique structural, power, data and thermal resources to a variety of payloads. These carriers are designed to transport items safely through the rigors of high acceleration Shuttle launch and the vacuum of space while providing the flexibility to allow the Shuttle to minimize the mass transported to earth orbit. 2, record 18, English, - Spacelab%20logistics%20pallet

The Lab Support Equipment(LSE) and Station Support Equipment(SSE) comprise the general-purpose equipment and tool items developed to support ISS [International Space Station] maintenance and payload operations.(The distinction between LSE and SEE related mainly to where the equipment originates from within the ISS Program.) In designing the ISS [International Space Station] to accommodate sub-rack payloads it became apparent that several advantages would be obtained if investigators building MLE-based equipment [Middeck Locker Equivalent equipment] provided with host racks with a standardized set of interfaces. Based on this the EXPRESS rack concept was born. EXPRESS stands for Expedite the PRocessing of Experiments to the Space Station. The purpose of the EXPRESS rack is to allow quick(i. e., less than one year) and simple integration of payloads into the ISS. 2, record 20, English, - standard%20interface
