L’Association de l’industrie de la défense du Canada a annoncé [en décembre 2005] l’adoption d’un mandat élargi pour l’organisation. Celui-ci combine désormais la sécurité avec la défense. Aussi, pour refléter l’élargissement de son champ d’activités, l’organisation a-t-elle modifié son nom en celui d’Association des industries canadiennes de défense et de sécurité (AICDS). L’AICDS est la seule association d’affaires nationale à avoir à la fois la défense et la sécurité comme mandat fondamental. Civil war erupted in the Dominican Republic in 1965, and to protect American civilians the United States landed 12, 000 troops. These were joined by 1, 700 soldiers from six Latin American countries, under the auspices of the Organization of American States(OAS), and together they formed the Inter-American Peace Force. At the urging of the UN Security Council, the Secretary General sent a representative, José Mayobne of Venzuela, to the Dominican Republic to report on the matter. Established in 1993 under UN Security Council resolution 846, UNOMUR was given the mandate to monitor the border between Uganda and Rwanda and verify that no military assistance-lethal weapons, ammunition and other material of possible military use-was being provided across this border.
