The effect of pH on the stability of immobilized enzymes has been studied.... The stability of enzymes immobilized using polycationic carriers was enhanced on the acid side.... These shifts toward the acid side may be explained as follows. When an enzyme is bound to a polycationic carrier, positive charge on the enzyme protein increases, and the pH of the immobilized enzyme region becomes more alkaline than that of the external solution. Accordingly, the enzyme reaction effectively proceeds on the alkaline side of the external buffer pH, and the optimum pH apparently shifts to the acid side. 1, record 1, English, - polycationic%20carrier

Recent advances in DNA technology have enabled a range of modifications to be engineered into the amino acid sequence of a protein.... The applications of these techniques can be used to... make new or improved proteins of clinical interest... or of industrial value... by optimizing the thermal stability, pH optimum, catalytic efficiency or specificity of the proteins. As a consequence of the ability to prepare synthetic enzymes, we will be able to... elucidate and confirm enzyme reaction mechanisms. Quatre facteurs principaux semblent contribuer [...] 2, record 4, French, - efficacit%C3%A9%20catalytique
