Recent advances in atmospheric chemistry demonstrate that aerosol surfaces play a very important role in their chemistry. In particular, organic aerosol is aged and processed through photochemical and radical oxidation reactions. These reactions likely affect each aerosol particle uniquely, resulting in a patchwork of molecules and chemical functionalities even on originally homogeneous aerosol. The end result of these reactions is likely a surface with mixed hydrophilic and hydrophobic character. 2, record 1, English, - homogeneous%20aerosol

Photochemical smog [is] the predominant type of air pollution in Southern California. It is the result of sunlight reacting with hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen in the atmosphere. Ozone also is a component of photochemical smog. 6, record 2, English, - photochemical%20smog

7, record 2, French, - smog%20photochimique

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Carbon monoxide is formed through incomplete oxidation of carbon. It has a 5-month residence time in the atmosphere, where its concentration is increasing from 0. 8% to 1. 5% per year. About three-quarters of the present global emission of 1 billion metric tons of carbon as carbon monoxide results from human activity. Forest clearing in the tropics accounts for about 15%(160 million metric tons), and the burning of savanna for agricultural purposes adds another 10%... The principal natural sources of carbon monoxide include the oceans, plant emissions, and photochemical oxidation of natural non-methane hydrocarbons in the atmosphere(240 million metric tons). 7, record 3, English, - carbon%20monoxide
