The Aerial Survey Data Base(ASDB) is a data bank of photogrammetric control points that have been established through the process of aerotriangulation. The primary purpose of this data base is to provide a minimum of 4 points for the compilation of each photogrammetric model contained in a 1/50 000 National Topographic System(NTS) map sheet.

OBS

CONT

Aerial triangulation, or aerotriangulation, is the process of determining X, Y, and Z ground coordinates of individual points based on measurements from photographs. Aerial triangulation is used extensively for many purposes.

OBS

bridging :... densifying ground control through strips or a block of photos to be used in subsequent photogrammetric operations. When [aerotriangulation is] used for this purpose it is often called bridging, because it allows the computation of necessary control points between those measured in the field.

  • Géographie mathématique
DEF

Méthode de triangulation photographique qui permet de déterminer les coordonnées des points du canevas nécessaires à l'exploitation métrique d'une couverture photographique.

CONT

A Practical Drill for the Airborne Profile Recorder - The paper attempts to set out detailed working procedures for the use of Airborne Profile Records, based on a number of experiments carried out by the author during the last four years and a study of experiments carried out by others. The general working principles of A.P.R. are first described. Detailed requirements are then given with regard to the material and records which it is necessary to obtain from the contractor who will operate the A.P.R. This is followed by a description of the preliminary analysis of this material which is necessary before work can start.

CONT

... photogrammetric methods are used to establish a precise horizontal control for the aerial photographs and airborne profile records for the establishment of basic elevation control.

According to the Etruscan tradition, the Romans used to trace the two main axes of the city -decumanus maximus and kardo maximus- by means of the shadow being cast by the first sunbeam that appeared at the physical horizon of the respective place on inauguration day. The azimuth of the decumanus maximus direction was therefore identical with the azimuth of the point the sun rise on the day. When tracing a city, the Romans used a topometric instrument groma...

CONT

Photogrammetric control consists of any points whose positions are known in an object-space reference co-ordinate system and whose images can be positively identified in the photographs.(...) Photogrammetric control, or "ground control" as it is commonly called in aerial photogrammetry, provides the means for orienting or relating aerial photographs to the ground.

OBS

According to Betty Fleming of the Topographical Survey Division, EMR, and Professor Ladouceur of the Department of Photogrammetry of Laval University, "ground control" and "photogrammetric control" are not synonymous, WOELE notwithstanding. A photogrammetric control point is usually an artificially identified point in an aerial photograph, whereas a ground control point is a point established on the ground by a survey party.
