Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
An oil burner is defined by the National Oil Fuel Institute as a mechanical device for preparing fuel oil to combine with air under controlled conditions for combustion. Two methods(atomization and vaporization) are used for the preparation of fuel oil for the combustion process. Air for combustion is supplied by natural or mechanical draft. Ignition is generally accomplished by an electric spark, gas pilot flame, or oil pilot flame. Burners of different types operate with luminous or nonluminous flame. Operation may be continuous, intermittent, modulating, or high-low flame. 4, record 3, English, - oil%20burner

Gas-fired water heaters have a gas burner located below the tank, a thermostatic switch, a gas valve and a pilot light. The thermostat will open the gas valve when it senses the water temperature at the bottom of the tank has dropped below the present limit. Gas flows to the burner and is ignited by the pilot light, heating the tank from below. In addition, the hot exhaust gases are vented through a hollow core in the center of the tank to help heat the water. The exhaust is then passed into the draft hood and to the vent connector where it is discharged to a chimney flue. 3, record 4, English, - gas%20water%20heater

lifting flame. When too much primary air is admitted to the burner, the flame will actually lift off the burner ports. This flame is undesirable for many reasons. When the flame is raised from the ports, there is a possibility that intermediate products of combustion will escape to the atmosphere. The flame will be small and will be accompanied by a blowing noise, much like that made by a blow torch. There will be rough ignition and, if enough secondary air is available, ignition may be impossible. 3, record 16, English, - lifting%20flame

2, record 17, French, - veilleuse%20%C3%A0%20allumage%20intermittent

There are basically three types of pilot burners: (1) the millivolt; (2) the bimetal; and (3) the liquid filled. The millivolt type can be divided into the thermocouple and the thermopile. The thermocouple is an electricity producing device made of dissimilar metals. One end of the metal is heated and is called the hot junction, while the other end remains cool and is called the cold junction. 1, record 30, French, - appareil%20de%20s%C3%A9curit%C3%A9%20%C3%A0%20thermocouple

Horizontal Rotary-Atomizing Burner.... The burner consists of an atomizing or spinner cup, and air blower, and a region in which the air and oil are mixed. The cup, which is mounted on a horizontal motor shaft, is revolved at a speed of 3, 450 revolutions per minute or higher. The oil fed to the cup is atomized by whirling the oil off the edge of the cup. As the oil droplets leave the edge, they are caught up in a horizontal air current from the blower. The resulting fuel-air mixture is ignited by a gas pilot near the cup, and the flame is projected horizontally. 2, record 36, English, - horizontal%20rotary%20cup%20oil%20burner
