Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
DEF

An auger equipped with water-jet orifices designed to clean out collected material inside a driven pipe or casing before taking soil samples from strata below the bottom of the casing.

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
DEF

Subject field(s)

CONT

Solid-stem augers consist of spiral flanges welded to a pipe. One length of pipe(or auger section) is called a flight; multiple auger sections are often referred to as continuous flighting. The leading auger flight has a special bit or cutter head attached that cuts a hole for the flights to follow. Flights are added as the hole is drilled deeper.

CONT

Hollow stem auger. A borehole drilling technique in which the rotation of spiral shaped flanges, or flights, serve to raise soil material to ground surface, having firstly been loosened or broken up by a cutting bit at the base of the auger. The central stem of the auger is hollow

CONT

CONT

There are three principal types of augers used for well drilling : bucket augers, solid-stem augers, and hollow-stem augers.... Cuttings from the drilling process are brought to the surface by the action of the augers.... Hollow-stem augers are similar to solid-stem augers in design, except that drill rods can pass through the auger sections.... Because the flights are hollow, they can be used as temporary casing to hold the hole open while the permanent casing is installed. Wells drilled with hollow-stem augers have been used to construct water supply wells, but they are more often used to construct monitoring wells.

CONT

CONT

Microtunnelling is becoming increasingly important. Whether house connections, gas and water pipelines, pipe renovation or laying cables-the principle of underground pipe-jacking has proven successful. Essential advantages are environmentally friendly processes, minimized disturbance to public highways, easy working in urban areas, economical management... Auger material removal will be applied in soil without ground water. The advantages of the auger system : Simpler machine design than the AVN system and direct discharge of the excavated material, especially with cohesive ground.

CONT

Microtunneling specifications... The measuring and balancing of earth and ground water pressure shall be achieved by use of a slurry or cased auger system. The system shall be capable of incremental adjustments to maintain face stability for the soil conditions encountered... The system shall monitor and continuously balance the soil and ground water pressure. The system shall be capable of adjustments required to maintain face stability for the particular soil condition to be encountered to prevent loss of soil or uncontrolled ground water inflow.

  • Adduction d'eau (Alimentation en eau)
  • Canalisations à grande distance
DEF
