PIPE BREAK [11 records]

Record 1 2023-03-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pollution (General)
CONT

... some substances are not being released into the environment in an easily defined way like from a pipe. Instead, they may be released into the environment because they end up in a landfill, and ultimately break down, and then enter a wastewater stream. The words "medium indicative of release to the environment" apply to something like that wastewater stream. Take for example a substance that is present in a consumer product and is released when the product is used or as the product degrades.... As the product containing the substance is used, traces of the substance may end up in municipal wastewater effluent. The presence of the substance in wastewater effluent is then indicative of its release into the environment.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution (Généralités)
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Plant Safety
CONT

Break(rupture) preclusion is a deterministic concept, which ensures by preventative measures(requirements on design, materials, product forms, manufacturing, quality assurance, analysis of fatigue crack growth) and surveillance measures(requirements on transient and water chemistry monitoring, leakage detection, in-service inspection) that rupture of a pipe can be discounted in safety studies.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sûreté des centrales nucléaires
DEF

DEF

A break involving complete severance of a pipe.

CONT

The ECCS has been designed to accommodate pipe breaks up to and including a double-ended guillotine break of the largest pipe in the reactor coolant system.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sûreté des centrales nucléaires
  • Physique nucléaire
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Power Stations
  • Pipes and Fittings

CONT

For a CANDU, voiding may start for a break size of 4 [inch] diameter pipe or less. This encompasses feeder sizes, therefore the relationship between the make-up capacity and the diameter of feeders is critical.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Centrales nucléaires
  • Tuyauterie et raccords
  • Tiroir - Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire
CONT

CONT

Power tongs are pneumatically or hydraulically operated tools that serve to spin the pipe up tight and, in some instances, to apply the final makeup torque.

Subject field(s)
  • Metal Forming
CONT

... pipes are manufactured in a continuous process on the pipe mill. Raw material, consisting of stainless steel purchased in the form of coils, is fed into the pipe mill and formed to round by five break down rolls and three fin pass rolls prior to welding. The pipe is then plasma welded.

CONT

The mills normally make use of three types of rolls to progressively form the flat steel section into the round form prior to welding. The three types are: break down or forming rolls, the idler vertical closing rolls and fin pass rolls. ... Breakdown rolls provide the initial shaping of the strip towards the round form. ... The fin pass rolls provide perfect guidance into the welding section and in addition coin the strip edges to provide the precise circumference.
