Some designs add a secondary containment(third pipe) to create the so called Pipe-in-Pipe-in-Pipe(PiPiP) concept. The inner pipe transports the cryogenic fluid, the annular space provides the necessary insulation properties and the outer pipe(s) offers protection from the external environment(pressure, corrosion, impacts).

Une eau corrosive est caractérisée par la production de l'hydroxyde ferreux, puis ferrique. Cela entraîne la formation de nodules, voire de tubercules pouvant à terme diminuer la section. Ce phénomène se rencontre dans les anciennes conduites sans cimentation intérieure [...] - les eaux agressives envers les matériaux à base de ciment. Une eau agressive se définit comme ayant les propriétés d'attaquer les matériaux renfermant du calcium. Selon la minéralisation, le pH et la température de l'eau véhiculée, trois cas peuvent se présenter : une eau à l'équilibre calco-carbonique n'entraîne à une température donnée, ni attaque, ni précipitation de carbonate de calcium; une eau incrustante (ou entartrante) a tendance à déposer des sels de calcium (carbonate) sur la paroi intérieure des canalisations; une eau agressive peut attaquer certains éléments constitutifs du mortier de ciment comportant du calcium (silicates ou silico-aluminates de calcium).

This build up is mainly due to the presence of oxygen and moisture in the sprinkler piping.
