The downspout takes the water from the gutter and down to the drainage pipe or splash block on the ground... If your downspout drains into an underground drain pipe, it is wise to use some kind of stainer in the eavestrough to prevent debris from clogging the underground pipe. End to center measurement or center to end mean the same thing. This is possibly the most common measurement taken by persons working at the plumbing trade. The fitting is generally tightened on the pipe first and then the tape placed so that the desired measurement is in the center of the fitting and a mark is then made at the end of the tape.
