The balloon annex usually has a capacity of about 680 tonnes. Built beside the elevator, it is usually 8. 2 metres wide, 18. 3 metres long, 6. 1 metres high and has one partition in the middle which creates two large bins. It is filled by lifting grain within the elevator itself from the pit to the distributor spout and then directing the grain through an added spout to the annex. A 23 centimetre auger, located beneath the floor, is used to empty the annex. The elevator engine is used for power. Grain is brought from the annex into the elevator's back hopper and elevated to one of the elevator's storage bins or into a rail car. 1, record 5, English, - balloon%20annex

1, record 5, French, - annexe%20temporaire

A typical primary elevator contains about 18 storage bins, a receiving scale, a pit beneath the scale and a mechanism known as a leg. The leg lifts the grain from the pit to the top of the elevator where it can flow by gravity into any one of the storage bins. The elevators are designed to receive grain from producers’ farm trucks, store the grain in bulk lots in separate bins according to kind and grade of grain, and transfer it quickly and efficiently into rail cars for shipment to domestic processing plants and export ports. 1, record 6, English, - kind%20of%20grain

1, record 6, French, - type%20de%20grain

The real break through(in DVD technology) has come in the chemistry laboratories of Agfa in Belgium, where scientists are experimenting with data storage on a molecular plane, using a layer of photo-addressable polymers on the disc. The polymers have side-chains that rotate into one of 36 positions when subjected to light. Before recording, the polymer layer is opaque. Once subjected to light, the polymer's side-chains rotate to an extent that is controlled by varying the strength of the laser impulse. The laser will not be reading a two-dimensional system of pit/no-pit but a three-dimensional scale of grey dots, corresponding to four bits on each molecule. the twisting molecule discs could be on the market in about 10 years. 1, record 7, English, - molecular%20CD
