PITCH CHANGING [13 records]

Record 1 2019-07-18

English

Subject field(s)

CONT

... the valves, on command from the directional control electronics, inject fuel into the booster exhaust stream, creating side forces that change the direction of the main thrust vector, thus changing the missile's pitch or yaw axis.

Subject field(s)

CONT

In other small machines the centrifugal force on the blades as the rotational speed rises, is made to change their pitch. The blade fixing at the hub may have a spiral socket so that the blades changes pitch as i is pulled radially outwards by this force or, alternatively, the blade spindle may be bent near the hub so that the centre of gravity of the blade lies off the axis of rotation. Pitch changing with a fly-ball governor is used in the small Winpower machines.

On the A330-200 "Sleeper" aircraft, there are only eight seats in a 1-2-1 configuration(A-E, F-K). They have an 80-inch pitch, a 180-degree recline and are 25-inches wide. Known as the Class 180 seat(because it reclines fully flat, or 180 degrees), the seat transforms into a full-size bed covered with fitted cotton sheets, over-size pillows and duvets. Passengers are also offered pyjamas and there are changing room facilities and a suit pack to store your day clothes.

The bolt which goes through the "pitch horn" also goes through a pitch change rod end... which has one of those spherical bearings in it. This allows the rod end to push and pull on the pitch horn, thereby changing the pitch of the blade.... The other end of the rod end... is attached to the pitch change yoke.... The pitch change rod is actually a shaft which goes through the hollow shaft [on which] the tail rotor is mounted on...

The X-wing has emerged from the circulation controlled rotor(CCR) in which a hollow blade of roughly oval aerofoil section, that is, without a real lifting profile at all, can be made to lift effectively by blowing a layer of air through a slot and across the curved Coanda surface which forms the trailing-edge. While this in itself produces lift, the air jet can be so modulated as the rotor turns that it has the same effect as the cyclic pitch changing of the normal rotor. Finally, a further jet can be blown through a second slot near the leading-edge of the blade so that it restores the lost lift of the retreating blade. This fore-and-aft blowing is the key to the stopped-rotor X-wing.
