Attitude Measurement Issues. Acoustic refraction and the vessel' s roll, pitch, heading and heave determine where the acoustic beams meet the sea floor. Just asin conventional surveys, factors such as tides, storm surges and vessel draft and settlement at speed are also important in MBS [multibeam sonar] surveys. Position and heading are used to transform slant-ranges and ray angles into geo-referenced depths. 1, record 15, English, - attitude%20measurement

When the roll gimbal hits its stop, it precesses pitch into the other pitch stop. This process could continue throughout the first phase of rapid align. To prevent this, a rate signal is developed from the roll VG [vertical gyro] pick-off signal and fed to platform pitch gimbal servo loop. When the pitch gimbal goes into its stop and roll starts to precess, the roll pick-off signal is fed into the pitch loop to drive the pitch gimbal out of its stop. 1, record 27, English, - platform%20pitch%20gimbal%20servo%20loop

Lorsque le cardan de roulis heurte sa butée, il applique la précession de tangage à l'autre butée de tangage. Record number: 32, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The mercurial barometer... in its simplest form... consists of a glass tube a little more than 30 inches in length and of uniform internal diameter. With one end closed, the tube is filled with mercury, and inverted into a cup of mercury. The mercury in the tube falls until the column is just supported by the pressure of the atmosphere on the open cup, leaving a vacuum at the upper end of the tube. The height of the column indicates atmospheric pressure, greater pressures supporting higher columns of mercury. The mercurial barometer is subject to rapid variations in height, called pumping, due to pitch and roll of the vessel and temporary changes in atmospheric pressure in the vicinity of the barometer. Because of this... the mercurial barometer has been replaced at sea by the aneroid barometer. 4, record 32, English, - pumping

V-bar : Flight Director Indicator... The V-bar command indicator is a pair of yellow, wedge-shaped V-bars that move up or down to command a climb or descent, and roll left or right to command a bank. The flight director system commands the V-bars to capture and track the selected heading or radio signals; or to maintain a desired pitch angle, glidepath, or an optimum speed during SC(speed command) operation. To satisfy the commands, the aircraft is maneuvered so that the airplane symbol is flown into the V-bars until the two are aligned. Input signals to the V-bars depend upon the mode of operation. The basic attitude sensor was the three-gyro inertial reference package. It contained two air-tight integrating gyro units to sense pitch and yaw, and one miniature integrating gyro unit to sense roll. The pitch and roll gyros were torqued by signals obtained by two Barnes mod IIA infrared horizon sensors. Gyrocompassing oriented the vehicle to an orbit plane yaw reference by detecting a component of the programmed pitch rate through the roll horizon sensor. The geocentric pitch rate (typically 4 deg/min, for a low-altitude orbit) was programmed as a constant torque to the pitch gyro. This pitch component, if a yaw error was present, would be sensed differentially when compared with the roll components of the two horizon-sensor heads. The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber. 2, record 44, English, - liquid%20fuelled%20motor

Many screw designs have been utilized over the years for the various extrusion processes and materials.... The best-known screws can be loosely separated into two categories-conventional screws and barrier screws. Conventional screws usually are single flighted designs with the flight lead(or flight pitch) equal to the screw's nominal diameter. This type is termed a square-pitched screw, and when no mixing devices are present, it usually is referred to as a metering screw. Barrier screws are seen in many design configurations used in the extrusion industry, depending upon the designer. These screws have a second flight, which acts as a melt/solid separator designed to enhance output stability and allow higher usable output performance levels. 1, record 51, English, - barrier%20screw

2, record 51, French, - vis%20Maillefer

Unified and American National screw thread standards for screws, bolts, nuts, and other threaded parts consist of six series of threads [UNC or NC; UNF or NF; UNEF or NEF; 8UN or 8N; 12UN or 12N; 16UN or 16N] and a selection of special threads that cover nonstandard combinations of diameter and pitch... The 8-thread series(8N) with 8 threads/in. for all diameters is used on bolts for high-pressure flanges, cylinder-head studs, and other fasteners against pressure, where it is required that an initial tension be set up so that the joint will not open when steam or other pressure is applied. This series has come into general use for many types of engineering work. It is sometimes used as a substitute for the coarse thread series for diameters greater then 1 in. 1, record 55, English, - 8%2Dthread%20series
