... a separate and more serious failure arose with the arm's shoulder pitch joint. The joint's electronics are unable to receive commands from the ACU via the arm's backup control string. When the joint failure manifests itself, the arm's entire redundant electronics string is paralyzed, rendering the crane's backup control side useless. Without the redundant path, the arm would have to operate only on its primary side with no margin for failure during operations. 2, record 1, English, - pitch%20joint

Methods that use vision to locate a workpiece and the sites on it suitable for gripping have been reported by Birk(et al.) They proposed three approaches each of which utilizes two distinct phases called the instruction phase and the execution phase.... The first approach, called appearance acquisition uses an instruction phase to calibrate the system to the appearance of the workpiece. The robot reorients the workpiece by rotating it in two dimensions while keeping the origin of the workpiece coordinate system constant. As the part is rotated in pitch and roll, sample observations are made. Proper grip are sites are taught by placing the part in its final position, moving the robot to the end position, and having it grip in the copying mode. The robot's arm joint positions are recorded, and the relation between the gripper and the workpiece coordinate system is computed. When this relationship is reestablished, the system knows that the part is being grasped properly. In the execution phase workpieces in the supply bin are viewed by the vision system, which looks for the features sampled during the instruction phase. 1, record 7, English, - appearance%20acquisition

Pipe thread. Standard(Briggs) taper pipe threads are cut(on a cone) to a taper of 1/16 in./in. to ensure a tight joint. Although a normal connection employs a taper external and a taper internal thread, an American National standard straight pipe thread having the same pitch angle and depth of thread as the corresponding taper pipe thread is used for pressure-tight joints for couplings, pressure-tight joints for fuel-and oil-line fittings, and for loose-fitting and free-fitting mechanical joints. 1, record 8, English, - standard%20taper%20pipe%20thread

Filetage conique standard américain "NPT" dit "filetage Briggs". (...)

Filetage NPTF (national, pipe, taper=conique, fuel and oil).

Unified and American National screw thread standards for screws, bolts, nuts, and other threaded parts consist of six series of threads [UNC or NC; UNF or NF; UNEF or NEF; 8UN or 8N; 12UN or 12N; 16UN or 16N] and a selection of special threads that cover nonstandard combinations of diameter and pitch... The 8-thread series(8N) with 8 threads/in. for all diameters is used on bolts for high-pressure flanges, cylinder-head studs, and other fasteners against pressure, where it is required that an initial tension be set up so that the joint will not open when steam or other pressure is applied. This series has come into general use for many types of engineering work. It is sometimes used as a substitute for the coarse thread series for diameters greater then 1 in. 1, record 9, English, - 8%2Dthread%20series
