Originally, keyboard tablatures must have suggested a practical link to the keys of the instrument. Indeed, the anonymous tenth-century Bern organ treatise... describes the presence of pitch names, for the performer's visual reference, written directly on the keys of the organ. If letters of the alphabet could be used in this way, it is just as conceivable that numbers could have been used in a similar manner. Thus, the origin of "German" keyboard tablatures may be associated with the practice of lettered keys, and the origin of "Spanish" tablatures may, at least hypothetically, be associated with numbered keys. 2, record 1, English, - keyboard%20tablature

The gyropilot, commonly called an automatic pilot, consists basically of three devices, each of which detects disturbances of the aircraft in one plane and corrects for these disturbances by moving the appropriate control : the rudder control for azimuth and sudden change in heading(yaw) disturbances, aileron control for roll disturbance, and elevator control for pitch disturbance. The local orbital reference system is defined at each point of the orbit by three unit vectors. Spacecraft axes. The three orthogonal axes of rotation: roll, pitch and yaw. If the spacecraft has a recognisable longitudinal axis or a specified forward direction of flight, the axes are analogous to those of an aircraft, where the roll axis is the longitudinal axis; the pitch axis is in the plane of the wings; and the yaw axis is the "vertical" axis, orthogonal to both the roll and pitch axes. The axes are mutually perpendicular, with an "origin" at the vehicle’s centre of mass. For a winged spacecraft such as a Space Shuttle, the similarity with an aircraft is obvious. For expendable launch vehicles the roll axis is the axis which is vertical at launch and the other axes are more-or-less arbitrarily assigned since the vehicle rotates about the roll axis in flight. ... The axes of a cylindrical spacecraft (e.g. Apollo, Suyuz, etc.) are similar to those of an ELV [Expendable Launch Vehicle] at launch, but one orbit assume the axis-definition of an aircraft (i.e. defined relative to the pilot’s seat). The axes of a satellite mirror those of an aircraft "flying along the orbital arc": the roll axis is aligned with the direction of travel; the yaw axis passes through the sub-satellite point; and the pitch axis is orthogonal to the other two. To recover from the microburst, the crew apply maximum power and pitch up toward an angle that can attain 15 degrees. The inertial acceleration(acceleration in reference to the ground, as opposed to acceleration within the airmass) experienced by the pilots, combined with the unstable attitude of the aircraft may cause a dangerous illusion. The pilots may believe that the aircraft has reached a very high excess energy and thus, try to pitch down or reduce the engine power. In reality, the aircraft performance is still low as it penetrates the energy-reducing downdraft and tailwind components of the microburst. 2, record 17, English, - inertial%20acceleration

The attitude indicator (also called the artificial horizon or the gyro horizon) provides the pilot with an artificial horizon as a means of reference when the natural horizon cannot be seen because of cloud, fog, rain or other obstructions to visibility... The natural horizon is represented by a horizon bar on the face of the instrument. 4, record 20, English, - natural%20horizon
Record number: 20, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The attitude indicator relies on the principle of gyroscopic rigidity in space--the rapidly-spinning rotor disk resists any attempt to disturb its orientation. Thus, the gyro provides a stable horizontal reference against which the pitch and roll attitudes of the aircraft can be measured. The "artificial horizon bar" on the face of the attitude indicator is mechanically coupled to the gyro inside, so it remains parallel to the natural horizon. The instrument's little "symbolic airplane" is fixed to the instrument case, however, so it follows the roll and pitch movements of the real airplane. Consequently, the relationship of the horizon bar to the symbolic airplane is the same as the relationship between the natural horizon and the real airplane. 5, record 20, English, - natural%20horizon

Stabilisation and orientation by inertial flywheels consists in accurately aligning the axes of three flywheels with the axes of reference(roll, pitch and yaw). When one of these flywheels is moved in yaw by an electric motor, its angular moment increases and the vehicle is subjected to a reactive couple. Inertial flywheels provide very fine control of orientation or stabilisation, because the couples set up may be very small. 1, record 21, English, - inertial%20flywheel

The basic attitude sensor was the three-gyro inertial reference package. It contained two air-tight integrating gyro units to sense pitch and yaw, and one miniature integrating gyro unit to sense roll. The pitch and roll gyros were torqued by signals obtained by two Barnes mod IIA infrared horizon sensors. Gyrocompassing oriented the vehicle to an orbit plane yaw reference by detecting a component of the programmed pitch rate through the roll horizon sensor. The geocentric pitch rate(typically 4 deg/min, for a low-altitude orbit) was programmed as a constant torque to the pitch gyro. This pitch component, if a yaw error was present, would be sensed differentially when compared with the roll components of the two horizon-sensor heads. The description of the Station's flight attitude(orientation relative to the plane of its orbit) is referenced to local-vertical/local-horizontal(LVLH) axes that are fixed with respect to the Station's near-circular orbit(i. e., not to the physical Station). The LVLH origin is at the Station's center-of-mass; the z-axis points radially toward the Earth's center(or toward the nadir direction), the x-axis points along the orbital velocity vector(the ram direction, with wake being opposite), and the y-axis completes the right-handed triad. The flight attitude of the Station is then described using a second, Station-fixed, coordinate system whose orientation relative to LVLH is specified using the Eulerian angles of yaw, pitch and roll. Several Station-fixed coordination systems are defined. The most widely used is the Space Station Reference Coordinate System,... in thich the positive x-axis points along the axis of the U. S. lab away from the Zarya and Service Modules; the positive y-axis points starboard along the main truss, and positive z completes a right-handed coordinate system. 2, record 26, English, - Station%26rsquo%3Bs%20flight%20attitude

The gyropilot, commonly called an automatic pilot(q. v.), consists basically of three devices, each of which detects disturbances for the aircraft in one plane and corrects for these disturbances by moving the appropriate control : the rudder control for azimuth and sudden change in heading(yaw) disturbances, aileron control for roll disturbance, and elevator control for pitch disturbance. In modern gyropilots rate detection forms the principal reference and displacements detection plays a secondary role. In such designs yaw disturbance is detected by a rate gyroscope and the change in heading is detected by the associated gyrocompass. 1, record 27, English, - yaw%20disturbance
