The Alpine Skiing World Cup is a circuit of alpine skiing competitions regulated by the FIS. Held at ski resorts across Europe, the continental US, and Canada, competitors compete to achieve the best time in four disciplines : Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super-G, and Downhill. After every race, points are awarded to the top 30 athletes-The athlete with the most points at the end of the season wins the cup. Sub-prizes are also awarded for athletes with the most point totals in each individual race discipline. The World Cup is held every year, and is considered the premier competition for alpine ski racing after the tetrannual Winter Olympics. Many consider the World Cup to be a more valuable title than the Olympics or the biannual World Championships, since it requires a competitor to ski at an extremely high level in several disciplines throughout the season(and not just in one race). 1, record 2, English, - Alpine%20Skiing%20World%20Cup

1, record 2, French, - Coupe%20du%20monde%20du%20ski%20alpin

Stem elongation or jointing occurs as a result of internode elongation. Usually a plant has about five to six leaves on the main shoot when internode elongation first begins. Throughout development, the lower four nodes remain in the crown. The fifth node may remain in the crown or be elevated slightly and nodes six and seven are generally elevated above the soil. The elongating internode is hollow between the crown and the elevated growing point, except in solid stem varieties. Rapid stem or internode elongation brings the developing head above the soil surface. Each elongating internode becomes progressively longer and eventually leads to head emergence. 4, record 4, English, - shooting%20stage

The National Artists Program, a federally funded project held in conjunction with the 2003 Canada Winter Games, will be held in Bathurst and Campbellton, New Brunswick from February 22 to March 8, 2003. The Program will focus on the following four artistic disciplines : Dance, Music, Theatre Arts and Visual Arts. The primary objective is to create artistic works inspired by and representative of the spirit of the Canada Games. The Games motto "Come Celebrate Winter", local settings, Games sporting venues, and the wide diversity of the participants should provide an excellent starting point for these artistic works. Four participants from each province and territory between the ages of 16 and 23 years of age(one in each of the four disciplines) will be featured during the two weeks of the Games. The participant will travel on the chartered airplanes as part of the provincial/territorial teams, the cost being borne by the federal government. The philosophy of the National Artists Program is to "bring together bright and talented young artists from each province and territory(representing a variety of disciplines) and challenge them, under the guidance of senior arts facilitators, to use the games as the inspiration for their art in order to see "the artistic and cultural dynamics that can be produced when the best of Canada's budding athletes come together with the best of Canada's emerging artists. 2, record 6, English, - National%20Artists%20Program

2, record 6, French, - Programme%20national%20des%20artistes

... blue moon... For half a century, it's been known as the second full moon in a month... But that's wrong... The magazine [Sky & Telescope] incorrectly defined the term 53 years ago. James Hugh Pruett wrote a 1946 piece for the magazine after apparently misinterpreting a complex 1937 article in the Maine Farmer's Almanac that essentially, but not clearly, said a blue moon occurs when a season has four full moons, rather than the usual three. Pruett mistakenly thought it meant having a second full moon within the same month. Pruett's mistake went unnoticed for decades.... Although Sky & Telescope's editors think Pruett's mistake led to the popular modern mis-definition of "blue moon, "it's unclear where the Maine Farmer's Almanac came up with the rule. The almanac is defunct. Pruett died in 1955.... By either definition--Pruett's or the almanac' s--blue moons occur about every two or three years... Although purists may subscribe to the almanac' s point of view, Sinnott thinks Pruett's error will prevail. 5, record 9, English, - blue%20moon

When a month has two full moons the second is known as a "blue" moon, though it only rarely has a blue tint that unusual atmospheric conditions can supply. Another approach, proposed by Levin, Wieland, and Williams(1999) and Taylor(1999), consists of using a "simple monetary policy rule"(simple rule) or a number of such rules, which yield good results in several models. We define a simple rule as one that allows the monetary authority to determine a level for the short-term interest rate as a function of a small number of variables(at most three or four) observed at the point in time at which monetary policy is set. 1, record 14, English, - simple%20monetary%20policy%20rule

Instead of having the beam sweep along in a continuous fashion, we triggered the TR [transformer-rectifier] modules to electronically wiggle the beam back and forth, perpendicular to the direction of flight. In the radar world, we call this ScanSAR(Scanning Synthetic Aperture Radar), because the beam scans across swath the way an electron beam sweeps across the face of a cathode-ray tube to make a television picture. You point the beam at one spot on the ground for about a tenth of a second, then zip it over to another place and point it there for a while, then you zip it over to a third place, then a fourth. By looking at four such subspots, you can sweep out a much wider swath of data. 3, record 19, English, - scanning%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

There are bound to be rainstorms whose water the soil cannot fully absorb-a point of major importance in arid and semi-arid areas, for this water can be collected and used to improve productivity locally. The following four water management methods and erosion control structures apply :. runoff harvesting(catching runoff for supplementary irrigation) ;. total absorption or infiltration;. runoff diversion(redirecting excess water) ;. runoff spreading(distribution of runoff energy).... Structures to dissipate runoff energy. When rainfall exceeds the soil' s absorption capacity, the sheet runoff can be controlled by spreading it across the whole slope rather than concentrating it in channels and outlets, where it can cause problems. Its energy can be dispersed by keeping the speed below 25 cm... Such dispersion across the slope is achieved partly by cropping techniques that keep the soil surface rough(clods, many grass stalks, effect of weeds and mulching, etc.) and partly by structures such as permeable microdams, which temporarily slow the flow, allow some sedimentation, spread the flood, reduce peak flows and improve absorption. 1, record 30, English, - runoff%20spreading

The problem of how to define interfaces has been central to the development of the RM-ODP. A related problem is the broad categorization of interfaces based on their architectural placement. One of the tasks of any reference model is to specify reference points on the architecture. The RM-ODP identifies four types of reference points, any or all of which may be specified as conformance points in a particular multimedia/hypermedia standard or specification. They are :-Perceptual reference point....-Interworking reference point....-Interchange reference point....-Programmatic reference point.... 1, record 37, English, - Reference%20Model%2DOpen%20Distributed%20Processing

The MPEG standard is primarily a bitstream specification, although it also specifies a typical decoding process to assist in interpreting the bitstream specification. This approach supports data interchange, but it does not restrict creativity and innovation in the means for creating or decoding that bitstream. The bitstream architecture is based on a sequence of pictures, each of which contains the data needed to create a single displayable image. Note that the order of transmission of pictures in the data stream may not be the same as the order in which pictures will be displayed-this will be evident shortly. There are four different kinds of pictures, depending on how each picture is to be decoded : I pictures are intracoded, meaning that they are coded independent of any other picture. An I picture must exist at the start of any video stream and also at any random-access entry point in the stream. P pictures.... B pictures.... D pictures.... 1, record 52, English, - I%20picture

Kniffin Training. This is the most popular training system in the eastern regions. The photograph in Plate VIII shows a young vine trained to the four-cane Kniffin form, just after it has been pruned. The vine consists of a trunk about four feet long, to reach to the top wire of a four-foot trellis. Near the head may be seen two canes and two spurs-the canes to produce the season's crop, and the spurs to produce the renewal wood for the subsequent season. At a point on the trunk near the lower wire, two canes with their spurs are also left. These lower canes are pruned somewhat shorter than the top canes, because the growth of their shoots tends to be less vigorous. Shoots from the eyes of the four canes droop downward(a normal way of growth for many of the native hybrids) forming a mantle of foliage for the fruit.(A Wine-Grower's Guide, 1965, p. 121). 1, record 57, English, - Kniffin

Symmetry Element Possessed by Group : n-fold axis.... Symbol : T(tetrahedral). Symmetry Element Possessed by Group :four three-fold axes towards vertices or regular tetrahedron. Symbol : O. symmetry": In general, a figure or expression is said to be symmetric if parts of it may be interchanged without changing the whole. ... A right circular cone has an axis of symmetry. A geometric figure has n-fold rotational symmetry about an axis if a rotation of 360°/n is a symmetry of the figure. Thus an axis of symmetry can be a rotational axis. For example, an axis through the centre of a square perpendicular to the plane is a 4-fold axis since a rotation of 360°/4 produces an identical figure; a diagonal is a 2-fold axis. 2, record 58, English, - n%2Dfold%20axis

The Argentine loan, terms for which were agreed upon in April, includes options allowing banks to lend in conjunction with the World Bank, to convert debt into equity investments, and to exchange as much as $5 million of their loans for so-called exit bonds. These can be traded, allowing banks to sell some of their Argentine loans. Also, for the first time in a loan to a bid debtor country, the credit includes fees for banks that join it quickly. Creditor banks had until the close of business Wednesday to claim a fee of three-eights percentage point for joining the credit quickly. Basically, charts are drawn according to the system of rectangular co-ordinates. Rectangular co-ordinates are based on two straight reference lines perpendicular to each other in a plane(...) The horizontal line is usually referred to as the X-axis, or the abscissa, whereas the vertical line is referred to as the Y-axis, or the ordinate. The two lines divide the plane into four parts called quadrants(...) The point of intersection of the two lines is called the origin, or zero point. Scales are labeled along the two axes, beginning at the point of origin. The abscissas(...) to the right of the origin are conventionally designated as positive, whereas those to the left of the origin are negative. The ordinates(...) above the origin are positive, and those below the origin are negative. Any point on the plane may refer to two values according to the two scales. 1, record 71, English, - system%20of%20rectangular%20co%2Dordinates

1, record 71, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20coordonn%C3%A9es%20rectangulaires
