Some water level recorders utilize a float on the surface of the water which is attached to a moveable gear in the recorder. A rise or fall of the water surface causes the float to rise or fall. This rotates the gear and the movement is recorded. Other water level gauges monitor either relative or absolute pressure at a point under the water surface. This pressure measurement can then be converted to height of the water surface. Still other water level recorders monitor the travel time of sound waves generated and received at a point above the water surface. This travel time can then be converted to the height of the water surface. 3, record 3, English, - water%2Dstage%20recorder

The micro-WIS(Micro Wireless Instrumentation System) consists of tiny autonomous sensors for data acquisition... This HTD [Head-of-Train Telemetry Device] is designed to demonstrate the micro-WIS transmitter and recorder. One of the objectives of this HTD is to obtain meaningful real-time measurements for use in the orbiter's Environmental Control and Life Support System(ECLSS) operations. The micro-WIS transmitter's simultaneous real-time measurements of air cabin temperatures in many interior compartments of the orbiter will help ECLSS operations personnel address issues encountered on STS-88 and early International Space Station flights. Currently, only one temperature reading in the aft flight deck of the orbiter is available for adjusting model predictions for real-time environments. Micro-WIS will also reduce the time it takes the crew to obtain on-orbit temperature measurements and will increase the capability to monitor temperatures over long periods.... Micro-WIS data will also be used to validate cabin air temperature models that are used to make critical predictions of the dew point on early ISS [International Space Station] missions, which is important because orbiter cabin air exerts a significant influence on the entire station volume. Although the physical configuration of the air ducts in the orbiter cabin has been changed significantly, the sensors have remained the same and some temperature data has never been available. 3, record 11, English, - micro%2Dwireless%20instrumentation%20system

Dextre [Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator] is designed so that only one arm can move at a time in order to avoid self-collision, achieve greater stability and maintain operational similarity with Canadarm2. The greater stability is provided by the immobile arm, which is first commanded to anchor Dextre to an ISS [International Space Station] stabilization point. At the tip of each arm, we find a "hand", known technically as the Orbital Replacement Unit/Tool Changeout Mechanism(OTCM). The OTCM consists of a set of parallel retractable jaws, which serve to grip payloads and tools. Each OTCM is also equipped with a retractable motorized socket wrench to mate and demate mechanisms on-orbit, as well as lights and a black and white camera. Dextre lower body is equipped with a pair of pan/tilt colour cameras that allow astronauts aboard the ISS, and engineers on the ground, to monitor the task, which is out of direct eyesight. 1, record 12, English, - orbital%20replacement%20unit%2Ftool%20changeout%20mechanism

1, record 12, French, - changeur%20d%27outils%20et%20d%27unit%C3%A9s%20rempla%C3%A7ables%20sur%20orbite

Oil filtration systems are one of the most effective means of controlling the contamination generated in a mechanical pump. The external oil filtration system, is an independent free-standing unit that usually consists of a transfer pump and motor combination, one or more stages of filtration, a sight glass to monitor the condition of the fluid, a pressure gauge to determine the element change point, and hoses equipped with dripless quick disconnects to attach the system to the mechanical pump. In addition, the system may have a means of quickly removing the filter housings, enabling the operator to effect an element change under a fume hood, or the system may be of a size that the entire system may be disconnected from the pump and transported to the fume hood. 1, record 14, English, - oil%20filtration%20system

Optical devices, which, by measuring the colour changes in pulp as delignification progresses, can continuously monitor the degree of bleaching or brightness of a pulp slurry at different stages along the bleaching operation so that the flow of bleaching agent required in a bleaching stage can be controlled either manually or electronically. The optical information obtained can be used to control flows upstream from the measuring point, which is called a "feedback" system, or the information can be used to control flows downstream from the measuring point, which is called a "feed forward" system. 1, record 15, English, - optical%20sensor

Flame Photometric Methods. When SO2 is burned in a hydrogen flame, the resulting electronically excited sulphur molecules emit light at 394 m wavelength which can be measured on a spectrophotometer. Several devices such as the Meloy FPD use this technique to measure SO2. Time response of these systems is fast... and reliable, and thus these devices are becoming more commonly used in APM surveys. The device is a moderately expensive point monitor but can be used in a mobile mode. 1, record 20, English, - flame%20photometric%20method
