  • Various Military Titles
  • Medical and Dental Services (Military)
DEF

[A] committee [set up] to review best practices, analyze evidence gathered in the operational theatre, suggest research and recommend solutions ... to address health care delivery deficiencies associated with deployed operations.

OBS

In response to the perception of a growing gap between CF [Canadian Forces] and Canadian health-care standards, the Standing Committee on Operational Medicine Review was stood up to conduct an in-depth clinical perspective review of deployed health-care services, from point of injury/illness to arrival in a destination hospital in Canada, in order to further identify deficiencies and recommend solutions.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Appellations militaires diverses
  • Service de santé et service dentaire (Militaire)
OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Symptoms (Medicine)
DEF

A means of testing perception of stimuli at corresponding sites on both sides of the body. A stimulus, either touch or pin prick, is felt when separately applied to an appropriate point on each side, but when like stimuli are delivered, bilaterally or simultaneously, the stimulus is perceived by the patient only on one side.

OBS

sensory extinction: term recommended by the Medical Signs and Symptoms Committee.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Symptômes (Médecine)
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nonverbal Communication (Psychology)
OBS

... J. J. Gibson and his followers... point out that our perceptual systems rarely encounter problems of ambiguity in everyday perception because the visual system is "tuned" to "pick up" important higher-order informational invariants in the optic array which specify, automatically and unambiguously, the objects, people and events...

Record 4 2008-07-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Road Safety
DEF

The place and time [at which the] hazard could have been perceived by a [normally attentive person].

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sécurité routière
CONT

The time and place at which the individual actually first perceived ... the hazard, that is, the unusual or unexpected movement or condition that could be taken as a sign of the accident about to occur.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sécurité routière
CONT

DEF

Errors which reflect the accuracy with which the floating mark of a stereoplotting system can be located on a sharp model point. These errors generally follow a more or less random distribution but show a systematic trend with progressive working time on the instrument due to eye fatigue and its effect on stereoscopic perception.

Record 8 1998-01-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Economic Fluctuations
CONT

There is a possibility that increasing market perception of this risk [issuer risk and a deterioration in rating] will come along with a turning point in the so-called "fear and greed cycle"-a change in the risk appetite of international investors-thereby amplifying its effect.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fluctuations économiques
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Coins and Bank Notes
  • Numismatics
  • Coining
DEF

The very slightest of wear on a coin at its highest points of relief or where the lustre has been destroyed; it is caused by light friction as in loose coin storage or even by light circulation.

OBS

Generally, rub is claimed only if it can be detected without using magnification and where the lustre is clearly broken. On toned coins that are generally dark, a very slight lighter tone at the highest point does not necessarily mean the lustre has been broken; a thinning of the transparent film that gives the perception of colour may have occurred but not to the point where the lustre has been touched.

OBS
